    Health Benefits of Chinese Herbs

    There are a lot of health benefits when it comes to Chinese herbs. 

    Medicinal herbs have been used for thousands of years in Asian culture as health tonic beverages. A daily cup of tea is the perfect way to balance energy levels naturally. 

    TCM practitioners often add acupuncture and acupressure treatments to further address one's health problems. 

    Red Dates 紅棗 - Hóngzǎo

    Jujube fruits are sweet and warm and enter the heart, spleen, and stomach meridians. It tonifies and improves the digestive system's motility. Choose unpitted red dates because their seeds inherently calm the mind and promote relaxation.

    Ziziphus jujube's edible fruits are highly nutritious and contain plenty of vitamin C and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, iron and magnesium. That's why you also see many marketing products that promote relaxation and reduce stress highlight magnesium. 

    During that special time of the month, a woman's period, Ziziphus jujuba has positive effects. Red date tea helps restore the disharmony of hormones in those that are blood deficient (poor blood circulation) with a painful menstrual cycle. 

    New mothers typically exhibit a drastic drop in both progesterone and estrogen levels. I was SO tired and moody after giving birth to Emily. Red dates replenish blood deficiency, malnourished and disturbed heart-mind, and repair broken sleep.

    This tea also benefits postmenopausal women. If you are wondering if you can eat Chinese red dates during pregnancy? The answer is yes. Red dates are high in iron and help prevent anemia in pregnant women and improve the nutritional quality of breast milk.

    Dried Longan - 桂圓肉/ 龍眼, Guìyuán ròu

    Longan meat is an edible fruit used to address blood deficiency in the heart and spleen. The heart controls a person's mental well-being, including sleep quality. Blood deficiency can give rise to Qi deficiency. In TCM, blood produces Qi, and Qi promotes blood circulation. Rich in calcium, phosphorus, iron and organic acids.

    ⁣桂圓肉味甘,開胃健脾,補虛益智 保心血,潤五臟,治怔忡。滋補養血安神。女性在產後調補也很適宜。

    Organic Goji Berries 枸杞子 , Gǒuqǐzi

    Gǒuqǐzi in TCM, the Wolfberry nourishes the blood and tonifies the Yin by entering the kidney and liver channels. 

    Lycium Chinense is rich in polysacharides, betaine, sesquiterpenes, vitamin A, B-1,2, C, calcium, phosphorus, iron, zeaxanthin, physalein, and linolein acid. Warm-type constitutions.

    A ¼ cup serving of fresh goji berries is only 111 calories. Goji berries are high-antioxidant superfruits that prevent free radicals from damaging DNA, lipids and proteins. There are 18 amino acids in goji berries, while apples only have 16. 

    Known as Matrimony Vine Fruit for its aphrodisiac effect, this wonderful tonic herb promotes longevity and youthfulness, brightens the eyes and moistens the lungs. 

    If you love organic goji berries, try adding goji berries to your oatmeals or Energy Raw Bars.

    枸杞子有养阴补血、滋补肝肾、益精明目清火的功效。養血安神、治療失眠、养肝护肝、 补肾。枸杞性质比较温和,食用稍多无碍,但进食过多也会令人上火。

    Dried Chrysanthemum Flowers 乾菊花, Qián júhuā

    Qián júhuā is one of the four gentlemen among flowers "plum blossom, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum." There are many benefits of drinking it properly.

    Chrysanthemum tastes sweet and bitter, slightly cold in nature; it has the functions of dispelling wind and clearing heat, clearing the liver and improving eyesight, detoxification and anti-inflammatory. It has a specific curative effect on diseases such as dry mouth, excessive liver fire, astringent and dry eyes, cold, and dampness.

    Chrysanthemum has the effects of lowering blood pressure and eliminating sore throat, wind-heat cold, headaches and high blood pressure. Long-term drinking can help lower cholesterol. 

    菊花味甘苦,性微寒;具有疏風清熱、清肝明目、解毒消炎等功效。菊花對肝火旺盛、用眼過度引起的眼睛乾澀也有很好的療效。

    Instructions

    Soak the herbs for 5-10 minutes in a small bowl to remove traces of impurities. This will help remove dust and debris. Rinse and set aside in a small bowl.  

    Add all the herbal ingredients (red dates, dried longan, organic goji berries and dried chrysanthemums) into a Buydeem Health Beverage Maker. Fill with water and set to Tea Mode. 

    Although not all Chinese herbs react with metal, it is best not to use a metal pot when making Chinese medicinal herbal soups.

    Alternatively, add all ingredients into a small pot, fill with water, and boil for 5-10 minutes.

    If you wish to steep this in a French Press, fill the glass container with boiling hot water and let steep for at least 15 mins.

    Pro Tip: Ensure you use boiling hot water and not lukewarm water.

    Serve and best to enjoy while hot.

    • If you like to sweeten this tea, consider adding 50g of rock sugar. However, all 3 ingredients is inherently sweet, I find it is not necessary to dissolve additional sugar.
