Health Benefits of Chinese Herbs
Black Eye Peas 眉豆
The leguminous plant kidney bean seed provides high-quality protein eggs that are easy to digest and absorb. It has an appropriate amount of carbohydrates and various vitamins, such as Vitamin B1. Vitamin B1 is responsible for maintaining the function of normal digestive gland secretion and gastrointestinal motility, helping digestion and increasing appetite. Mei Dou treats heat-dampness, vomiting and diarrhea, and spleen deficiency and is an ideal food for diabetics.
眉豆 健脾化湿、脾虚呕逆、 化湿消暑、治疗水肿、水停消渴。
Figs 無花果
Fig benefits are plentiful. Fig fruits are very nutritious, high in antioxidants and low in calories. This ancient fruit is sweet and neutral to warm in nature. It targets the lung, stomach, and large Intestines meridians. Dried figs in Chinese soup recipes are typically used to clear heat, thirst quench, promote the secretion of body fluids, moisten and tonifies the stomach and large intestines, detox, and reduce inflammation.
無花果營養功效幫助消化、清熱潤肺、止咳、抗癌、養顏美容、改善血管和心臟健康、潤燥消積。
Raw Coix Seed 生薏米
It has the appearance of a deep concave on one side. Its primary characteristics are removing dampness and wind - suitable to drink during Spring. Its nature is cold and suitable for people with a hot body. Raw coix seeds invigorate the spleen, relieve diarrhea, and improve spleen and intestinal pain.

Tremella Fuciformis 雪耳
This dried fungus is inherently sweet in taste and helps to tonifies Yin deficiencies. It promotes meridian affinity by moistening the stomach, kidney and lungs. In beauty, tremella fuciformis enhances skin hydration and has anti-aging properties and antioxidant effects that prevent cell damage by free radicals. This is a very safe ingredient and can be eaten freely as food.
潤肺止咳、潤膚、 肝脏解毒 、清热健胃 、增加免疫力。
Red Dates Jujube 紅棗
Red dates are sweet, warm, and enter the heart, spleen, and stomach meridians. It tonifies and improves the digestive system's motility. Choose unpitted red dates because their seeds calm the mind and promote relaxation.
Red dates are highly nutritious and rich in Vitamin C and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, iron and magnesium. You also see many marketing products promoting relaxation and reducing stress, highlighting magnesium.
Jujube also helps restore the yin-yang disharmony of hormones with blood deficiency postpartum. New mothers typically exhibit a drastic drop in both progesterone and estrogen levels. Red dates replenish blood deficiency, malnourished and disturbed heart-mind, and repair broken sleep.
Those who belong to heat-type constitutions can also add chrysanthemums to this tea to reduce the heatiness. I find the floral addition particularly pleasing!!
“一日吃三枣,青春不显老。” 紅棗甘甜、溫熱,可進入心脾胃經,養血安神,治療失眠。
Dried Chinese Mandarin Peel 陳皮
Aged tangerine peel is soothing and normalizes your meridians. It helps relieves cold and reduces phlegm, congestion and stagnation of Qi. It improves digestion, reduces dampness and promotes spleen functions. Choose dried Chinese mandarin peels that are well-aged.

Papaya 木瓜
The sweetness of the papaya is soothing. Papaya strengthens the spleen and stomach, helping digestion, clearing the heat, quenching thirst, and lowering blood pressure.
Papayas have an excellent source of Vitamin C, A and B-complex source and contain large amounts of soluble dietary fibre.
There are two papaya varieties unripe green papaya and ripe orange papaya. When making soup, it is recommended that you use unripe papaya and avoid using ripe papaya. Ripe papaya is best enjoyed and eaten as fruit.

木瓜,分有兩個品種,宣木瓜屬於藥物供藥用;番木瓜屬水果類供食用。

Peanuts 花生

花生性平,味甘,入脾、肺经。 醒脾和胃、润肺化痰、滋养调气、清咽止咳。
Can I Use Candied Dates 蜜棗?
While large dried dates are frequently used in Chinese soups, blood-nourishing red dates are used instead of candied dates in this Green Papaya Soup.
Candied dates are made with a lot of sugar. Sugar increases the dampness and heat in the body.
Using dried dates will reduce the medicinal food therapy of this Chinese herbal soup recipe.
Why Do You Add Chicken Feet To Papaya Soup?
I grew up drinking and making green papaya soup recipes with chicken feet by default. Often, I associate it with chicken soup equals nourishing and wellness.
However, chicken feet are used because they are rich in collagen, the most essential protein component in tendons, ligaments, and connective tissues.
Some people may want to substitute chicken drumsticks for a leaner meat option.
Why Do You Add Pork To Chinese Soup?
Pork shanks and pork tenderloin adds an extra depth of sweetness to your Chinese soup pot.
In Chinese culture, adding pork shank to Chinese soup helps elevate the soup's natural sweetness.
Some people choose to add pork ribs or pork bones in addition to pork shank to make the broth richer.
Vegan Substitute For Meat In Green Papaya Soup
You can make vegetarian raw papaya black eye peas soup by omitting meat and adding extra Snow Fungus and cashews.
Snow fungus is rich in plant collagen, nourishing the Yin and moistening the lungs.
Why Do Vegans Use Cashews?
Cashews are excellent ingredients to make creamy vegetable soup recipes. Because cashews are high in fats, they are fantastic at producing a creamy texture. Cashews are neutral in flavour with sweet tasting notes.
Opt for a vegetarian traditional Chinese Papaya Soup option with cashews while still enjoying rich fibre, heart-healthy fats, and plant protein.
Pro Tip: if you want to make soups creamy without dairy or meat, cashews are an excellent choice!
Papayas: Big Breast Food
A while ago, Taiwanese people were crazy about this green papaya soup. Young women and girls during puberty believed that eating green papayas would grow larger breasts and a more voluptuous curved body.
Does Papayas Help Boost Breastmilk Production?
Postpartum women would also eat green or unripe papaya, increasing oxytocin production, which boosts breastmilk production and milk supply during the confinement period.
Papaya also contains carotenoids, beta-carotene and Vitamin A in nursing mothers.
Is It Safe To Eat Papayas During Pregnancy?
While you can eat ripe papaya throughout the trimesters, it is crucial to avoid eating unripe papaya during pregnancy (or if you are trying to become pregnant!)
Unripe papaya contains a latex substance that may cause uterus contractions and pose a risk of miscarriage.
Some pregnant women choose to eliminate all papayas from their diet.

How To Make Green Papaya Soup with Black Eye Peas

Soak black eye peas, raw coix seeds, red dates, and peanuts for 20 minutes in a small bowl to remove traces of impurities. This will help remove dust and debris. Rinse and set aside.
Soak snow fungus in a small bowl. Once the snow fungus has resuscitated, cut the hard ends off with scissors.
Also, soak aged, dried tangerine peel separately in a small bowl. Take a small teaspoon once the orange peel softens and scrape off the white pith. This will remove the bitterness.

Wash fruits and vegetables.
Cut the ends off the green papaya and cut lengthwise to remove the seeds. You do not need to peel the skin.
