Ingredients and Substitutes
Simple ingredients are required to make killer Halloween rice krispie treats amazing. Go big or with any combination you like. Here are a few items to get you started!
Colour Candy Melts - I used Bright White, Pink, Vibrant Green, and Blue candy melts. Candy melts are excellent for cake pops, cookies, and moulded candies. They usually come in vanilla flavour.
Edible Candy Eyes - Choose mini, medium, and big eyes. Of course, you can also buy a box of assorted candy eyeballs! These coloured eyeballs and candy eyeballs with eyelashes are too cute!
Halloween Candy Corn - add this classic candy to your homemade rice krispie treats as fangs!
You can even decorate monster rice krispies with edible candy fangs and candied lips. It is entirely up to you how much or how little you want to add! All the different colours and possibilities make me giddy!
Cake Frosting - Sometimes, instead of using colour candy melt, I will use Betty Crocker Vanilla Icing and mix my desired food colouring colours. Green food colouring makes excellent Frankenstein rice krispie treats. Orange candy melts makes cute pumpkin rice krispie treats.
One of the first things I learned baking when I was little was making Rice Krispie Treats. It's one of the best baking inventions ever! Make this delicious treat, or choose prepacked, individually wrapped chewy squares. They even have homestyle homemade rice krispies with ooey gooey bites of marshmallow mixture! They are perfect for lunchboxes and mid-day snacks.

Option 1: Melted Chocolate Buttons - If you choose to use melted chocolate or vanilla cake frosting, follow the directions on the package. Microwaveable easy-to-melt buttons in a microwave-safe bowl at low-temperature one-minute intervals until completely melted.
Option 2: Vanilla Icing -Portion the tube of vanilla icing for cakes into small glass bowls. Add one to two drops of food colouring to each glass ramekin until the desired shade is achieved.
Dip and cover one end of a rice crispy treat in melted candy melts to decorate the naked Rice Krispie monsters.
Press candy eyes with different sizes of candy-coating goggly eyes, edible candy fangs, or candy lips to create rice krispie monsters with different patterns. It is a great way to get the whole family into the monster-themed party spirit!
Don't worry about where you place the eyes. These fun Halloween treats don't have to be uniformed. It's entirely up to you! Most importantly, have fun with these spooky treats.
Repeat the process until you've completed all the Halloween rice krispies monsters.
Rest the Halloween rice krispies at room temperature until the icing and candy melts have entirely hardened. If the weather is warm, place them in the refrigerator or freezer for 5 to 10 minutes.
Once hardened, arrange them on a party platter or sheet pan and serve.
How To Meal Prep Halloween Rice Krispies
This simple festive Halloween treat recipe can efficiently be incorporated into your fun treat meal prep ideas for Halloween night (weekend).
Store the Halloween rice krispies treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. To avoid the little monsters sticking to each other, I separate them with parchment paper and cover the box with plastic wrap to prevent condensation. Take them out of the fridge 10 to 20 minutes before guests arrive so they are not too cold and hard.
