Vietnamese food is such a vibrant cuisine. It is one of my favourites. It is homey and comfortable; yet, it can be so complex. Sometimes, it is hard to think outside of a bowl of pho noodles. Kim Thuy’s cookbook Secrets of my Vietnamese Kitchen […]

This caramelized pork dish is perfect served over a snowy bowl of jasmine rice. The Stir-fry chunks of pork belly, chilli and green onions in the wok makes it very aromatic. For a lighter though no less delicious alternative, consider lean pork tenderloin instead. And also, […]
Com Vietnamese is a brand spanking new restaurant in Richmond on the corner of Lansdowne and Alderbridge Way. The 2 story high loft ceiling restaurant is beautiful, bright and well designed by Ste. Marie Design Studio Glasfurd & Walker, who worked together on Coquille, Kissa Tanto, Botanist, Savio Volpe – just to name a few. This modern looking Vietnamese restaurant menu focuses on traditional Southern Vietnamese cuisine – just how Grandma makes it. And in case you were wondering, the name Co’m means “rice” in Vietnamese.
The 75 seater restaurant features tables, booth seats, and bar area with an impressive cocktail program. Come summer 2019 you will also be able to enjoy their 20 seat patio.
Where To Park?
There are plenty of free parking in the Tempo Building off Alderbridge, street parking on Cedarbridge Way, and paid parking at the ORA Building around the corner.
Chả Giò (Pork Spring Roll) 8.50: This crispy spring roll is made with minced pork, carrot, taro, black mushrooms and glass noodles. Served with lettuce, fresh mixed herbs and nước mắm.
Papaya Salad 16.50: This is one of my favourite Vietnamese salads. Loaded with fresh papaya, carrot, lemon, onion, mixed herbs, prawn, pork loin, peanuts and house made dressing. Tangy and sweet with lots of different textures for a great mouth feel.
Thank You, Com Vietnamese for having me as a guest!

House Special is an upscale restaurant that specializes in modern Vietnamese cuisine in Yaletown, Vancouver. It is change to see a string of chic eateries like Chi (Kitsilano) , Anh & Chi (Mount Pleasant) have a refreshed take on dining while serving authentic Vietnamese food. I […]
The 1983 Pho Hoang Restaurant reboots into a modern Vietnamese eatery after 33 years on the corner of 3388 Main Street and 18th Avenue. Anh and Chi is now modern, brightly lit, and brings a new breath of life to sea-foam, tattered tables stereotypical of “pho restaurants”. Interior […]
Chi Restaurant on 1935 West 4th Avenue (Kitsilano neighborhood of Vancouver) does a modern take on Vietnamese food. The restaurant is clean, modern and brightly lit. No disarray of chopsticks, napkins or neon lighting in an incense filled room. Across the street is Fable Kitchen, Maenam and Rain or Shine Ice Cream. Owner and Chef Chi Le is the runner-up from Masterchef Vietnam in 2014.
Ca Ri Lac Xa – Curry Laksa 16: Fragrant coconut lemongrass broth with egg noodle , fish cake, fish balls, and shrimp. Flavors are vibrant, bold and includes dimension. Noodle game is strong. It is chewy with a nice bounce.
Pho Dac Biet – Wagyu Pho 17: the sticker shock of $17 for a bowl of pho was quite something. Although it uses rare waygu slices, it seemed almost a waste once cooked in the hot soup. The soup itself has a fragrant broth that is clear, not very oily and also comes with beef brisket. And the rice noodles? Delicious!
Canh Ga Chien – Chi Chicken Wings 10: Wonderful three full free range chicken wings. Complete with middle wing, tip and drummette. All smothered in a tangy, fish sauce.
I’m intrigued and would want to come back for dinner. Their Raw Bar sounds amazing. The same goes with their ca nuong (chargrilled eggplant) and ca kho to (sablefish claypot).

CHAU VeggiExpress Vancouver 素食速遞 is a vegetarian eatery serving primarily vegan dishes inspired by Vietnamese roots. They had moved a few times and this time it seems to be here to stay!
Just a few steps away from Western Lake Chinese Restaurant, this hipster joint is becoming one of my favorite vegetarian / vegan restaurants aside from Heirloom. Next door, the CHAU Veggi even has their own cafe serving Parallel 49th coffee.
Namaste Rolls 4.25: fresh salad roll with rice paper, quinoa, mung beans, fried shallots, steamed lemongrass tofu, Thai basil, green leaf lettuce with crispy wheat center, thin rice vermicelli noodles. Served with roasted peanut sauce. I really like the different textures and how fresh everything tasted.
Golden Temple Soup 11.75: I thought I would miss meat in my curry, but I didn’t. This light tumeric coconut curry soup with assorted organic tofu, bean curd, mushrooms, seasonal vegetables, yam, taro, kale and herbs was refreshing. I didn’t get that bloated feeling! Choice of quinoa, wild rice blend or noodles available. In hindsight, I don’t suggest ordering quinoa. It gets lost in the soup and doesn’t soak up the sauce.
Tropical Rainstorm Bowl 10: Coconut heaven with this thick round rice noodle bowl. Complete with shredded beancurd, tofu, yams in toasted soybean and rice powder, spinach, kale, cucumber, mint, mung bean, fried shallots, pickled carrots and daikon, bean sprouts. All tossed in a creamy toasted coconut sauce with lemon vegan fish sauce. Gluten Free. Good for those with Celiac disease or gluten sensitivities.

Delicious Pho Coquitlam Centre is my go to place for Vietnamese Pho Noodles. High ceilings and ample table and booth seats. There is a free parkade behind the building. There are also plenty of street parking. Delicious Pho is right beside Browns Social House and Legend House 天府 behind Coquitlam Centre. The staff are friendly and the food is prompt.
We usually like to order a combination of soup noodle with a rice plate or vermicelli bowl to share. The portions are generous and the plates are huge. Soup broth is always piping hot. Although the flavors are not the most complex, it is not very oily. It is a great place if you are looking for a quick fix or when you really don’t feel like cooking.
Lemongrass grilled pork and fried egg rice: Nice portion of marinated meat with sunny side egg, pickled vegetables, greens and broken rice. Served with side of fish sauce.
Fried Chicken Wings: On the menu it says fried bananas. We always laugh with the staff about this typo. The wings are lightly breaded and served with center wing and drum stick.
Bo Bun Hue: A rather oily spicy beef soup and really doesn’t compare to the clean but flavorful complex broth from Mr. Red Cafe. A nice variety of beef balls and beef shank slices.
Overall not bad for a quick pho meal. Delicious Pho is a lot cleaner and tastier than most other pho restaurants in Coquitlam. There really isn’t anything bad to say about this place. I certainly have been back many times.
