From dim sum lunch to family dinner, Empire Seafood Restaurant Richmond 帝苑皇宴海鮮酒家 does not disappoint. Winter Solstice Festival 冬節 dongzhi celebrates the ‘arrival of winter’. It is a very important part of the Chinese culture and traditions. Dongzhi Festival is also a time for family get together. After this celebration, there will be longer daylight hours and increases the positive energy flow in the yin and yang philosophy of balance and harmony. Honestly, we just use it as an excuse to eat. What’s a bigger celebration than family and food?

Fish Maw soup with assorted seafood of scallops and prawns. This soup is delicious and fish maw is very nutritional. Fish maw nutritional benefit is high protein, iron, good for the complexion. You can try to make your own fish maw soup at home too. Check out this fish maw soup recipe.
Steamed Marinated Chicken: The chicken was lean and flavorful.
Deep Fried Pork Ribs with aged bean curd. The fermented bean curd was a very bold flavor that gently coated the tender pork ribs. Nicely present in a taro bird’s nest.
Sauteed Lobster with Broth (added egg noodles): My family favorite lobster lightly sauteed in original lobster broth. We like to add egg noodles on the bottom so it will soak in all the lobster juices. The lobster was very fresh and meaty.
Braised Gai Lan with fish fillets: The only vegetable dish of the night. I wished there was more Chinese broccoli. The fish fillets were bouncy and cooked perfect. The wild mushrooms were a good addition to the otherwise plain dish.
Pan Fried Glutinous Rice with Sausage: This is the perfect winter dish. Glutinous rice fills and warms the stomach like none other. Diced Chinese sausage and mushroom, green onions adds great tastes and textures.
The last course for the Empire Seafood Restaurant winter solstice dinner menu, dessert came in the form of red bean soup. This is pretty standard for most Chinese restaurants.
