創意冰店 17°C Dessert Cafe Vancouver is the newest dessert shop. Last weekend they offered 50% off everything for their Grand Opening and ran out of melon shaved iced bowls almost immediately. Luckily I did not go line up even though I wanted to see what all the fuss was all about and why people would line up for hours to get some shaved ice. Well, good things come to those who are patience. Did you catch all the craziness on Snapchat (👻 instanomss)?
The dessert shop is small with some tables and four bar seats. It offers a variety of fresh fruit bowls like Watermelon Icy, Honey Dew Icy, Pineapple Icy and the Fruit Boat. They also offer smoothies, yogurt parfaits and their signature light bulb drinks. I would imagine more seasonal fruits to be offered as summer arrives.
We were invited by ChineseBites along with few fellow bloggers for menu tasting at 17°C Dessert Cafe.
The Watermelon Icy 14.99: One of their signature items is this refreshing watermelon bowl with shaved almonds, Pocky, ice cream, shaved ice and served with condense milk. I liked the combination and can imagine how thirst quenching it would be in 30°C weather! I liked that it wasn’t too sweet and relied more on the natural sweetness of the fruits.
Pineapple Icy 14.99: A new addition to the menu is this Instagram worthy pineapple bowl. Comes with juicy gum balls, shaved ice and coconut ice cream.
Cantaloupe Icy 14.99: Same concept as the watermelon icy bowl with juicy gum balls, shaved ice and ice cream. Comes with condense milk for you to pour on top. I personally did not like the juicy gum balls – it is too sweet and texturally doesn’t go well with the dessert. I also prefer honeydews over cantaloupes and would want to try that next time.
Lightbulb Drinks: Comes in two sizes regular and large. The ones shown above are large which is actually looks quite small. There are four flavors: passionfruit, red pomegranate, kiwi and lemonlight bulbs. The drinks tasted extremely artificial and has an unnaturally sweet flavors. The concept of drinking out of a ‘light bulb’ is all gimmick to me albeit great for photos. Nothing more.
$15 for a bowl of fresh fruit and shaved ice is pricey unless you are sharing amongst a few friends. The price you are paying is for the labour of melon-balling each order. I hope that they improve on their drinks menu and offer more natural flavors.
What would you order when you come here?
