Every time I see this popular dessert at dim sum restaurants, I can not resist. Don’t forget to order the egg tarts too!

If you plan on hosting family gatherings and potluck dinners, this crowd-pleasing recipe makes hosting a breeze! Kids approve too!

Here are a couple mango-forward bowls I am genuinely obsessed with from the blog! Both these recipes can be made plant-based and vegan!

    Ingredients and Substitutes

There is no wrong way to enjoy Chinese style mango pudding. I grew up eating mango pudding drizzled with sweetened condensed Milk or evaporated Milk from Chinese restaurants.

You can make it the classic Cantonese mango pudding method or the Vegan Mango Pudding alternative.

    • Fresh Ripe Mangos – Ripe mangoes has the most flavor. Mango alfonso is a good alternative if it is not mango season!
    • Drinking Water - previously boiled or filtered water
    • Sugar or Monk Fruit Sugar (sugar substitute) - Monk Fruit Sugar is an excellent 1:1 sugar alternative with zero calories and a weird aftertaste.
    • Gelatine Powder or Agar Agar Powder (Vegan) – Chinese mango pudding recipe without gelatin can use Agar Agar Powder as a good substitute for making plant based desserts.
    • Heavy Cream or Full-Fat Coconut Milk (Vegan) - If you are wondering if you can use coconut milk to make pudding, the answer is YES! Full-fat coconut milk makes a luscious dessert and is perfect for lactose intolerant people! The creamy pudding turns out super silky and velvety! Regular milk is not as creamy and the mango mixture will come out too thin
    • Condense Milk, Evaporated Milk or extra full-fat coconut milk - add a thin layer of evaporated milk or milk alternative as a luscious topping
    • Mango Dice - Because no one ever says no to more fresh mango cubes

All the ingredients can be purchased at your local grocery stores or online.

    Optional Toppings

    • Fresh Fruit
    • Tapioca Pearls
    • Sago
    • Coconut Flakes

These delicious desserts are calling your name if you are looking for another quick sweet treat!

How To Make Chinese Style Mango Pudding

The steps to make vegan mango pudding is identical to the original recipe. The only difference in making vegan mango pudding is that plant-based ingredients are used, like Agar Agar Powder and Full-fat coconut milk.

Wash and pat dry fresh mangoes with a kitchen paper towel.

Peel, pit, and cube about 3 very ripe mangoes with a sharp knife.

Alternatively, if you do not want to hand chop the mango, you can also use a good-quality food processor. Here are my picks for the Best Food Processor!

Add 2 cups of mango chunks and drinking water into a high-speed blender or food processor and blend mango flesh into mango puree.

Run the mango pulp thru your best fine mesh sieve if you prefer a smooth puree instead of the fiber from the mango pulp. Set aside.

Add cold water to a large bowl, followed by sugar and gelatin powder. Mix well with a whisk to dissolve. Allow the gelling agent to bloom.

Add heavy cream or coconut milk to the bloomed gelatin mixture. Mix well to combine.

Add mango puree to the liquid mixture. Mix well to combine.

Give the mango pudding mixture a quick stir.

Pour the creamy mango mixture into a small saucepan and heat over medium-low heat. Continue to whisk and melt the gelatin powder. Do not bring it to a boil. As long as the thickening agent fully dissolves.

Lightly grease silicone molds with vegetable oil or line pyrex glass container with plastic wrap.

Pour the liquid into the molds. Allow the liquid to cool down before setting the whole thing in the refrigerator overnight.

Serve and enjoy this Chinese mango pudding recipe cold.

Pro Tip: Drizzle a thin layer of fresh cream or evaporated milk over the back of a spoon on top of the silky mango pudding sweet dessert. This method reduces air bubbles and gives the mango pudding a glass mirror like finish. Top with extra chunks of sweet mangoes and garnish with mint leaves.

Hi there, I read through the recipe instructions and saw the 100 mL drinking water listed; does this mean I add 100 mL of water to the mango puree, and then also use 100 mL when blooming the gelatin? Thank you! Can't wait to make this.

hi Emily - i would add drinking water to a large bowl, followed by sugar and gelatin powder. To bloom the gelatin only. Hope it turns out great for you!

Did you answer Emily’s question? I have the same question. The recipe has listed 100ml drinking water in the ingredients but the instructions seems to have used the water twice. Is pease clarify. Do we use half the water with the mangoes and half with the sugar and gel? I want to make this but don’t want to ruin it!

Mango & coconut milk in a pudding is genius! So sweet and yummy by itself, or with a dollop of whipped coconut cream.

My daughter has been bugging me to make jello for weeks, so I made her this instead. It is SO good, wow. I would never have thought of something like this on my own, but it was simple and just incredible. We made it with coconut milk and it was the perfect combination.

I've always wondered how to make this mango pudding. I haven't had it in forever but once in a while that craving hits. I usually get this at dim sum with a little condensed milk on top while the kids always chose the jelly cubes. I can't wait to find a good mango and try this recipe!

I love ordering this at dim sum restaurants too (even though it is so easy and quick to make at home). I love the jelly cubes that goes with it along with the condense milk. It's just so fun to eat! Enjoy Bernice!
