If you remember the old Pier 73, the 70’s bar was old, tired and the food wasn’t very good. The Deck is now modern, spacious and has a gorgeous patio view.
It’s actually funny because I’ve seen their patio deck up for expansion, renovation and the wait for permits – my office is literally just around the corner.
The other day, I came here for media tasting with Sherman. It was great catching up.
GINGER BEEF $16: This tender meaty ginger beef was crispy with a nice thin coat of chilli sauce without being too sweet. It uses nice cuts of striploin. Trust me, it is not chewy and dry! The recipe is a family legacy since 1975.
FISH N CHIPS 1 piece $18 / 2 pieces $22: This nice crispy golden flaky lingcod is served with a side of crispy fries and slaw and tartar sauce. The slaw was a bit watery and I’ve gotten to take preference on a no-mayo coleslaw instead.
DOUBLE DECK BURGER $19: This meaty 8 oz burger was pretty solid and is filled with thick-cut crispy bacon, fresh tomatoes, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, burger sauce, fries & salad garnish.
MOULES FRITES $9: This is always one of my favourite patio orders. The juicy and plump mussels were served in a nice butter, garlic, white wine, tomato, herbs broth. Comes with a side of golden crispy fries.
STEVESTON Flatbread $16: This thin and crunchy flatbread included clams, prawns, garlic cream, crispy potato, mozza, bacon, fennel, and mirepoix. The white cream sauce and cheese was a nice mellow pairing to the fresh seafood ingredients.
TUNA STACK $18: furikake albacore, yam, cucumber, avocado, ssamjang, eel sauce, sticky rice, sesame tempura crisp, nori. This was perhaps my least favourite as it was a little too saucy and overpowered the albacore tuna profile.
CALAMARI FRITO $14: potato starch, jalapeños, preserved lemon, yam, crispy onion, cilantro, cocktail sauce, lime aioli. Perhaps a little too batter for my liking but the calamari themselves were super fresh!
Deep-Fried Sea Bass (off the menu): I love fish and this deep fried sea bass was tender, moist and perfectly cooked. The green onions and soy dressing was delightful. I could eat this all day!
Overall, I love the rebranding. The Deck in Richmond is a great place to visit for food and drinks with killer views and a spacious patio – especially on a nice summer’s day.

Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks is a local craft beer brewery in Richmond behind Ironwood in Steveston. This craft brewery is a place for big geeks, pop culture, comics and anime. You will recognize it by the names of the draft, the retro video games console, etc. This feels like a hang out place – a lounge if you will.
The tasting room has a series of beers on tap on rotation: Destiny IPA, The Last Strawberry, The Last Mango, Four Winds Pilsner, Kiwami Plum Sour, Hikari, REI Boysenberry Sour, Moody Ales Affable IPA.
Each sleeve is $6 and a flight of four is $7. A taster is $2 each.
My favorite was the Kiwami Plum Sour and the REI Boysenberry Sour (above). It is refreshing and sweet. I love a good sour gose!
We also bought home The Last Strawberry Wit 4.9% at 8IBU. It is brewed with fresh strawberries. Perfect patio beer that is easy to drink!
Order some snacks to go with your beer. Fuggles and Warlocks offers Calbee chips, pepperoni, sandwiches, etc.

The name only is a mouthful Yuan’s Shanghai Serendipity Cuisine Richmond 源. This Shanghai restaurant is located beside Deluxe Chinese Restaurant 凯悦酒家 next to Aberdeen Mall. We were told how delicious their pan fried soup dumplings were and decided we must go check it out.
The restaurant itself is bright and open with some resemblance to Old Shanghai (except the blue velvet chairs).Big open display windows so we can all watch the chefs in action.
Service is mediocre and could be friendlier. Sometimes, the servers won’t bother explaining a dish if you had a question and just walks away.
Steamed Soup Dumplings: Pretty standard Xiao Long Bao with a juicy but very forgettable soup base. The meat was borderline mushy.
Pan Fried Soup Dumplings: Again nothing special to rave about. The skin was thinner than some other restaurants but the center filling again was pretty standard if not bland. At this point we were pretty puzzled why we were told such amazing things about their Steamed/Pan Fried Soup Dumplings.
Spicy Mouth Watering Chicken: The name of the dish is a bit misleading. Normally this is one of my favorite dishes to order at a Shanghai restaurant. The begin, the chicken was very boney. Little meat was there. There were lots of broken bones so be very careful. The sauce was overwhemingly spicy with little balance between sweetness and spices.
Shanghai Wonton: Wonton chicken soup enough to share
Hot and Sour Soup: Overall the flavors of this soup was not bad however they’ve put in way too much corn starch. The soup itself was thick and gloopy and not very enjoyable.
Beef Wrap: Again, another disappointing execution of a fairly basic dish. The beef wrap was dry. The filling majority was sliced cucumber with very little beef. The beef that was there was quite dry and flavorless.
Overall, we were quite disappointed with our experience here at Yuan’s Shanghai Serendipity Cuisine and will not return. For the price point I would have expected more than mediocre. There are far better restaurants in Richmond than to visit Yuan’s.

Deluxe Seafood Restaurant is one of the newer Chinese eatery in Richmond. Located at 4260 No 3 Road and Browngate Road (next Aberdeen Mall). It took over the space that once was home to HKYK Seafood Hot Pot Restaurant. Gone are cheap all day dim sum and hot pot. Instead, the space has been completely transformed and renovated into a higher end seafood and dim sum restaurant.
I came here for lunch one day with some colleagues. We enjoyed the comfortable setting, friendly and attentive service and variety of menu items. Dim sum items ranges between $4.80 (s), $5.80 (m), $6.80(l), $7.80 (sp) and $8.80 (sl) each. If you can not read Chinese, do not fret. The menu includes pictures and English translations of each item.
Shrimp Dumpling: There are five regular sized shrimp dumplings. Each with fresh shrimp to give you that sweet decadent bouncy mouthfeel.
Steamed Chicken Feet in Special Sauce: overall good texture and tasty although nothing overwhelmingly impressive.
Chiu Chow Dumplings with prawns, pork, chives and peanuts: Nice filling of ratio of ingredients. The skin is not too thick and have a nice chewy texture.
Bean Curd Wraps with Fresh Prawns in Abalone Sauce
Steamed Beef Rice Rolls with dried vegetables
Deep Fried Dumplings with Shrimp and Minced Pork and Dried Turnip.
Matcha Green Tea Mango Glutinous Pancakes: I would recommend ordering this when it is mango season. Otherwise, this otherwise sweet dessert with be quite tart.
Steamed Traditional Sponge Cake: This is one of my favorite Chinese dessert items during dim sum. This giant sponge cake was not very airy and a little too dense for my liking.
Overall, the execution of their dim sum was above average with good quality ingredients. However, none were overly impressive and makes me longing to return for more.
The Deluxe Chinese Restaurant also offers sushi (sashimi, nigiri and rolls) on their menu during dim sum hours. This is a little odd personally as I would have gone to a Japanese restaurant had I craved Japanese food to begin with.
