Fresh Prep is a meal delivery service in Vancouver. While the concept is nothing new, we like the selection of ready-to-cook meals with fresh local ingredients delivered right to the door. It is tailored for busy people looking for a home cooked meal without going grocery shopping and doing the prep work.
Choose from a variety of dishes like Lime Chicken Tacos, Shrimp Pad Thai, Baked Italian Sausage and Kale Penne on their menu.
All of the ingredients and totally fresh and prepared the same day they are delivered. Fresh Prep uses organic ingredients whenever possible and when they are available. For some weeks, they include more organic ingredients than other weeks, so it tends to vary depending on the time of year and availability.
As for their meats, they try and source locally whenever possible, and attempt to purchase free-range eggs, beef, pork, fish and chicken whenever it is available.
Each "meal" includes locally sourced, pre-chopped ingredients, a recipe card with step-by-step instructions to cook delicious meals in under 30 minutes.
There is no commitment and you choose to get deliveries when it's convenient for you. I also like that ingredients are carefully packaged in a refrigerated box so food stays fresh even if you're not home when we deliver.
This week we ordered
- Sliced Pork Bahn Mi with Pickled Daikon, Carrot Fries, and Spicy Mayo (above)
- Lime Chicken Tacos with Creamy Baja Cilantro Sauce (below)
Two Fresh Prep meal kits value at $44
Their delivery area is limited to within Vancouver. They also deliver to North Van on Tuesdays and Burnaby on Wednesdays. If you are outside of our delivery zone, they do deliver to workplaces (again within those vicinities).
Delivery within Vancouver Monday to Friday between 2pm to 8pm.
PRO TIP: Request extra ice packs especially during summer months.
Preparing for dinner. Simply toss the ingredients together as per the recipe card. The flavor profile is well balanced. Make minor tweaks as necessary.
We decided to alter the meal slightly to make into a Breakfast Taco Recipe. We added some fried eggs and fresh avocados. We even had time to make guacamole and served it with Pacui Tortilla Chips: Very Verde Good.
Verdict: I like the convenience of not having to chop and prep my meals. However, ordering Fresh Prep is not a last minute decision. It is something you will need to plan ahead of time. Since you will need to choose the recipe one week in advance and then they deliver the meal kits to your door the following week. If you are somebody with a regular routine with a set schedule, I would highly recommend this for you!
