Catch 122 is infamous for their affordable brunch menu with deep dish tastes. Probably a restaurant we should add to you 'best brunch in Vancouver roundup'. It is located on 122 West Hastings next to Wildebeest; steps away from Eastwood Cycle and Prado Cafe near Abbott. Occasionally overlooked, their menu offers #notjustbrunch.
Chef de Cuisine Jason Vallee comes from a background of Good Wolfe Kitchen (it's too bad it has shut down) and a handful of restaurants with the Glowbal Groups. Jason has a healthy repertoire with French inspirations.
The restaurant is dark unless you are able to grab the window facing seats. The staff is fun, approachable and quick to make recommendations should you be a lost for what to order.
White Sangria: theatrical upon its arrival with an absinthe appeal to the lit brown sugar cube resting on a thin slice of lemon.
Hummus 4: a nice healthy dose of chickpeas to start the meal. Lemon pepper is bright and makes a good contrast to the big earthy profile
Fried Oysters 6: One of the two fried dishes we ordered. A crunchy batter with a juicy plumped oyster center. Not a bad start.
Fried chicken 12: Maple glazed with smoked aioli hits home with a savoury sweet bite. The chicken is tender and juicy. Tastes like dark meat.
Poached rockfish 23: I'm glad we ordered this clean but flavorful vegetable broth with a perfectly cooked filet. Heirloom carrots and vegetable barigoule, fingerlings and herb oil. I love fish in general but often shy away from your typical salmon on a bed of asparagus-- because really, where's the creativity in that?
Wagyu Sirloin 28: You had be at wagyu. Undoubtedly it is tender and cooked to our liking of medium rare. Rich peppercorn jus with lots of charred carrots, cipollini onion and potato gratin to soak up all the flavors.
Another crowd favorite is the Duck Breast. Ordering this too would be an over kill. But give it a try and let me know what you think. The duck is paired with confit croquettes, porridge, asparagus, sunchoke puree with five spice gastrique.
We wanted to order the olive oil cake. Strangely enough it is not popular and have been unfriended from the menu. Sad.
Lemon Curd 8: Our replacement dessert is the lemon curd. Perfect as hell to look at.
I was sold immediately by the photos. A good ratio of tart to sweet with lavender meringues, graham cracker fm crumbles. Whipped cream and lemon balm.
Go on, make your reservation for dinner at Catch 122. Surely if you come here often enough for brunch, you should adventure here for dinner too!
