Salut! Les Faux Bourgeois is perfect little bistro located on a perfect little corner on Fraser and 15th; Or maybe I should say Fraser and Kingsway would make more sense. This sneaky little corner is full of goodies: Matchstick Coffee, Spool of Thread, The Artway Art Studio just to name a few. A lil bit of arts, a lil bit of cuties pattern fabrics and local craft classes makes this perfect little corner... unique.
When I look down the street I become a little forgetful and forget I am still in Vancouver. I dream of searching for flights to New York, escape to the Big Apple to explore their best eateries and run up the Empire State Building... As Dave snap me back into reality, we already have a table ready. No brain numbing waits I've read others endured. The wood furnishings, the bar stools, and well stocked libation shelf makes me dream of Lee Fields & The Expressions playing Wish you were here and Harvey Specter was sitting there.
But let us dive back into reality and reminisce of some fine French food.
BREAD AND BUTTER
complementary. crusty exterior, moist interior.
ESCARGOTS DE BOURGOGNE 9: classic parsley and garlic butter were rich but one dimensional. It was oily without the savory; and chewy without the bounce. While the drowning crostinis were too much to consume on its own.
ASSIETTE DE CHARCUTERIE 12: Daily assortment of local charcuterie, cornichons and Dijon. I regret forgetting to order some cheese to go along with the meat. all meat no cheese was just wrong. We should have ordered the mt. pleasant picnic 12. With too much food already prepping in the kitchen. I will let this one go... just this once.
PÂTÉ DE CAMPAGNE 10: Country style pork pâté that is light without much salt but has a grainy meaty texture andd taste. It better taste meaty! Afterall, I mean it is mixture of cooked ground meat and fat minced into a spreadable paste. This poor man's foie gras was great on a casual night out. For a fancy night out, I mean head to West Restaurant, Hawksworth (speaking of which I should stop hoarding the photos and post them up) or L’Abattoir...
LONGUE D’AGNEAU 19: A tender and well seasoned full of herbs. Perhaps domesticated lamb was not wild nor gamey is served with caramelized cauliflower (a reminder of Nuba's Najib's special), garbonzos and minted pea créme fraîche. I couldn't get enough of the cauliflowers.
No desserts for us here tonight, for long summer nights, I long to camp outside of Bella Gelateria. But you should definitely come back for their NUT CRUSTED CHOCOLATE SILK CAKE and their CANARD CONFIT. absolument fantastique! And if you like hot guys with an accent... psst! they have lots here!
BTW, if you were the nice lady that came by to say hi to the 'you guys are the cutest foodie/couple' you've found us! Merci!
