It's been two months postpartum. My first 30 days with baby was the hardest! The learning curve was so steep - I was not mentally nor physically ready! To celebrate I took a well deserved day at Chi, The Spa at Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver. First I enjoyed a nice breakfast at the Market by Jean George. While I headed up to spend some serious "me time" at the spa , my husband babysat and took Emily around town for a nice father/daughter date.
Chi Spa is located on the fifth floor where a wide range of holistic treatments, body massages and facial services featuring products from the prestige skincare brand Caudalie - natural products that harness the power of grape extracts from from the vineyards of Bordeaux, Champagne and Burgundy, France.
Since giving birth, it is very important to be aware of body changes - back pains from the epidural, weak knees from carrying an infant, water retention, etc. That is why I optioned for the Aroma Vitality Massage ($185 to $270) which is part of the CHI Signature menu - designed to take full advantage of all-inclusive treatment suites, which embody the spa’s philosophy.
Each treatment begins with a footbath and tea service, followed by an aromatic steam.
The massage brings together elements of Swedish, Shiatsu, and lymphatic drainage, combined with the therapeutic qualities of aromatic essential oils. The treatment is designed to strengthen the body’s vital energy.
After the massage, I relaxed in the waiting area over a hot cup of honey ginger tea to slowly let my body wake up and hydrate.
To fully utilize this spa day, I soaked in their heated outdoor pool and hot tub along with a nice steam before showering. Guests are able to access the Health Club facilities (fitness centre, pool/jacuzzi) before and/or after their treatment.
My day was blissful. I enjoyed the slow pace of reading a newspaper without responsibilities (even for a couple of hours). I highly recommend treatments at Chi Spa at the Shangrila-La hotel. The environment is clean, welcoming and very zen. Plus, I love the privacy of the in-suite experience where there is a private steam room, rainfall shower and your personal washroom - no need to lock your belongings in a communal bathroom.
Now that Autumn is upon us, the CHI Spa also introduced a new facial series using Caudalie's VineActiv line. VineActiv Facial and its patented Anti-Cell Burnout Complex helps fortify skin’s natural defence system with powerful ingredients such as Stabilized Grape-Seed Polyphenols (help preserve collagen and natural hyaluronic acid), Spruce Extract (stimulates and protects against oxidative stress), Vitamin C (boosts collagen production), and Vitamin E (maintaining skin radiance and suppleness).
The VineActiv Facial is 75 minutes in duration, and starts at C$175 per person. The treatment includes an aromatic steam to start and a detoxifying green juice to finish. It will be available at CHI, The Spa for a limited time only, starting now until 15 November 2017.
I was invited by Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver. Opinions are my own.
