Hey Happy Coffee puts a smile on my face period. This single-cup service of robust coffee is located in Downtown Victoria at 560 Johnson Street. I’m happy to see a new wave of boutique cafes instead of chains that boast “serious coffee”. Owner Rob Kettner…
Stumptown Coffee Roasters in Portland is a high-end coffee shop that has developed quite a cult following. This specialty coffee shop has locations throughout PDX (much like Prado and 49th Parallel coffee in Vancouver). But of course, many of its fans got really upset when Peet’s Coffee & Tea bought Stumptown. Many of us, simply scared that the quality will just go downhill.
We visited the 4525 SE Division Street location after having an early lunch at Canteen. I particularly like this coffee shop in the Richmond neighbourhood. I like the different shops nearby. I like that Salt & Straw Ice Cream is just a blocks down.
The lineup for coffee normally goes out the door. We were lucky and missed the bubble and was able to grab a seat. I really like the hipster merchandise selection Stumptown offers and even their brew kits (available online) is pretty rad. I mean, AeroPress and a copper pour over kettle set. You got me!
Cold Brew Coffee: A sweet, smooth, syrupy coffee made with Stumptown House Blend.
Cappuccino: Because it is early, having a hot coffee is the only way for me.
And for my Vancouver friends looking for some Stumptown Coffee, you can head over to Platform 7.

Good Coffee Portland offers great coffee and aesthetics. Every detail counts: marble counters, bench sets, chairs that feels like a giant hug and even a cowhide rug. For those Instagram obsessed, there’s even “good” tiles the entrance for you to take a photo #ihavethisthingwithfloors photo. Photos aside, Good Coffee has pretty awesome coffee.
The newer 4747 SE Division space is open and bright. There is a minimal Scandinavian vibe married with wood. The variety of plants spruces up the coffee shop with some life and relaxation.
Good Coffee is opened by Purvis brothers Nick and Sam and Dustin Evans. They opened shopped with a goal to bring good coffee to the neighborhood. Their coffee repertoire includes Coava and Barista. The cafe is down the street from Stumptown Coffee Roasters and walking distance to Salt and Straw, Pok Pok, and Whiskey Soda Lounge.
Rich and creamy cup of earthy roast of cappuccino. Perfect for that mid-afternoon pick me up. How is there is so much happiness in one cup?

Liberty Bakery Vancouver on the corner of Main Street and 21st is a charming little coffee shop. This bakery is has a variety of sweet treats and uber cute cookies. ex. Totoro cookie. The tempting selection and decor makes this place instantly Instagramable!
In fact, Liberty Bakery only reopened in April 2015. It is family-friendly Nordic bakery, using fresh local ingredients.
The cappuccino had a nice earthy espresso awakening. It makes street watching much enjoyable. We came in late the other day. So paper cups it is for an in house enjoyment.
If you are an Asian child (particularly Chinese and Japanese) growing up in the 80s / 90s your heart strings will probably tugged by Hayao Miyazaki’s beloved cartoon character, Totoro. Totoro’s appearance at Liberty Bakery as their trademark gingerbread cookie is almost too cute not to eat… almost. Twisted that I am, would bite off Totoro’s legs and ears before anything else. Who says I can’t play with my food?
