If you are looking for a retro Starbucks Coffee in Hong Kong Central, this vintage Bing Sutt星巴克 冰室 is on Duddell Street. The concept is similar to the retro vintage 1940’s Hong Kong style cafe in Mong Kong Sai Yee Street 旺角洗衣街. Starbucks Coffee on Duddell Street is the World's first ever Starbucks that retrofits to the nostalgic Bing Sutt 冰室 within a contemporary coffeehouse design. It is decorated with old school furniture, lighting with a local brand GOD (Goods of Desire) with antiques and goods that are quintessentially Hong Kong. Duddell Street itself is a historically renowned staircase with gas lamps and long staircase. It is home to many films and brings a timeless heritage to Hong Kong.
At first glance Starbucks Coffee Central on Duddell Street appears to be just another Starbucks coffee shop. But after entering deeper, you will find yourself merged beyong Western modernization and back to 1950's Hong Kong intimate style and traits solely Hong Kong.
Not only will you be able to enjoy a Ventri Dark or a sweet Caramel Macchiato latte, you will also find a few treats characteristics of Hong Kong. Or Chinese in that sense. Enjoy a coffee infused egg tart or red bean pudding. If you prefer a more western dessert, try the chocolate lamington.
I love how Starbucks embraces different cultural and integrates this modern coffee shop with a taste of the classics. It is even interesting to see the first Starbucks store not in English.
