Argan Bistro Vancouver, downtown formerly known as Moroccan West went thru several iterations of finding their niche. Argan Bistro is located just around the corner from VanVan Izakaya on Jervis. The restaurant is still relatively quite but has been picking up with many beautiful food photos from Instagram.

Argan Bistro is worth checking out. Their menu focuses on Pacific Northwest local fare and has Asian influences. You will find kimchi wraps, soba noodles, pork belly etc. On a nice sunny day, they have a nice patio for you to sit at.

Chilled Tomato Consommé with Soba Saladicon 15: Cold-pressed local heirloom tomatoes, Mesquite-smoked Salt Spring Island mussels & clams, watermelon, basil oil droplets are placed every so carefully. It is light refreshing summer dip for buckwheat noodles tossed with sweet sesame vinaigrette. Add a splash green kumquat to acidity.

Snapper Ceviche on Watermelon Planks 14: Tequila and grapefruit marinated fresh snapper, pickled shallots, jalapeno, cucumber-mint water, mole oil, habanero-passion fruit caviar, citrus roe, plantain hickory sticks. This dish is as pretty to look at as is every bite.

Smoked Oyster Mini Po’ Boysicon 17: Alder wood-smoked beach oysters, center cut Canadian bacon, oven-dried romas, organic greens, pickled shallots, fingerling potatoes, chili aioli. Added quail eggs on top is a nice touch of proteins with a buttery soft yolk.

Blackened Snapper Tempura 16: Black sesame & squid ink beer-battered snapper, dehydrated root chips, fermented kohlrabi & rainbow carrot slaw, kasu tobiko tartar sauce. Forget how the English do it. This fish and chips is slightly spicy with a nice zing.

Purple Lobster Skordaliaicon 29: Sous-vide Atlantic lobster tail, purple lavender pomme puree, golden tobiko, local organic squash, zucchini blossom, cucumber-fennel & asparagus salad. The lavender pomme puree is different and has a nice aromatic flavor.

Ultimate Chicken Club Burger 15.75: onion ring, bacon, havarti, bbq sauce is juicy and moist. The batter is light and bacon is crispy. Substitute coleslaw for fries if you are looking to add some creamy and crunchy texture.

Blue Canoe Waterfront, Richmond (Steveston)

Blue Canoe Waterfront, Richmond (Steveston)

Blue Canoe Waterfront in Steveston, Richmond is always one of my go to places for a beer, a view, and a casual lunch. Service here is spotty – sometimes prompt, sometimes not so good. The food is decent and fair despite what the general consensus says on the world of internet. They’ve now put up some plexiglass on their patio and you can enjoy the space even during the winter months. In the summer, it’s a bit hot with the greenhouse effect.

seafood trio salad 17.99: salmon, prawns, mussels, artisan greens, apples, fennel, red onion, avocado, blue cheese, toasted almonds, citrus vinaigrette. The salmon was a tad overcooked, but everything else was perfect. I liked pairing fennel, apples with citrus acidity.

crab & avocado sandwich 17.99: PEI crab, cucumber, tomato, crusty bread, with handcut fries or wild greens. This was really good. The creamy avocado mixed with some crab meat was very refreshing. It felt like a treat without the grease.

Blue Canoe Waterfront really the place is not 63% bad as urbanspoon suggests. And if you are simply looking for a spot to enjoy your favorite brew, a beer is a beer with a great view!

Earls Port Coquitlam

Earls Port Coquitlam

Earls Port Coquitlam is a chain restaurant with many locations in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Tho some many shun big box chains away, I unashamedly don’t mind them. I can always trust on the standards and services provided and the food really is pretty good.

When the sun is out it seems like everyone in Vancouver is out dining on a Patio and some patios feels like I am dining on the road side (inhaling exhaust fumes and chewing on dust). The patio space at Earls Port Coquitlam is actually quite nice. It is off the side of a big parking lot, away from the smoky asphalt and has a couple gazebo seats. For the next hour (or depending on how many sangrias juggled), you too can pretend to escape the chaos and bob your head to the tunes…

Dominical Fish Tacos 12.25: two soft flour tortillas, grilled lime and coriander marinated wahoo, mango and avocado salsa, spicy valentina crema. The fish was soft and moist and nicely seasoned. The spicy valentine crema sauce reminds me of ranch mixed with some paprika (something that I can skip). And if the tortillas shells were crispy instead of soft that would be even better.

Santa Fe Chicken Salad 16.50: avocado, black beans, corn, dates, feta and organic greens, peanut lime vinaigrette, crispy tortillas (ours was fettucini), cajun spiced chicken. Lots of proteins, lean meat and complexities brings this salad to approximately a jaw dropping 800 calories according to the My Fitness Pal app. I love everything about this Southern / Mexican inspired salad and it left me satiated for the afternoon.

Havana Vancouver (Commercial Drive)

I love Commercial Drive. It has so much to offer; there are so many restaurants, bars and pubs. Belgian Fries, BierCraft Tap and Tapas Bar, etc. Another one of my favorites is Havana. They first opened in 1996 and interiors are pretty rad: inspired by the faded glory…
