Yong He Dou Jiang Da Wang 永和豆漿大王 (Soy Milk King), Taiwan

    Feb 7, 2013 · Leave a Comment

Yong He Dou Jiang Da Wang 永和豆漿大王 (Soy Milk King) is one of best breakfast in Taiwan. They are opened 24 hours and is relative easy to get to by subway. We arrived bright and early at 8am there were already lines forming. We found the smell of fresh baozhi and soy milk.

We arrived in Taiwan after a long cab ride from Taoyuan airport to Taipei City. Although our Cabbie was driving like he was on Fast and Furious it still takes about 1 hr. The plan was to sweep the streets of Taipei and fill our bellies with as much good food possible. Given the FX exchange rate was approx 1 CAD:30 NTD, so a full breakfast costs less than $5 CAD.

Yong He Dou Jiang Da Wang has baskets full of Chinese Donuts 油條: Freshly fried and removed from oil. It is light, airy and completely not greasy unlike most.

Green Onion Egg Buns 蔥花蛋: Fragrant green onions julienne into a fluffy bun. Pan fried and sprinkled with white and black sesame. I could eat this all day long.

Pan fried meat buns 煎肉包: A juicy filling of minced pork meat, green onions and seasoning. A warm way to fill your bellies in the morning.

Red Bean Cookies and other sweets…

Salty Soy Milk Soup 鹹豆漿: morsels of Chinese donuts, green onions, dried shrimps are added to this deliciously silky broth of soy milk. The acid in vinegar congeals the soy milk into tofu – this should be somewhere between liquid and solid. The more acid added, the more congeal it becomes. This was just right.

Sticky Glutinous Rice Roll with Chinese donuts, shredded pork floss and preserved vegetables 糍飯糰: served hot and tightly wrapped with al dente rice pieces that is never too mushy. I prefer it if they added slightly more preserved vegetables.

Pan fried radish cake 蘿蔔糕: Lightly pan fried to a golden color with a crunchy layer on the outside and soft on the inside. Not a lot of filling but flavour-wise is good.

Hundreds of people poured in Yong He Dou Jiang Da Wang as we sat on a little corner enjoying our food. Many were on their way to work and would line up .

From Daan Station walk about 4 mins.
