    Tosokchon Samgyetang South Korea
Tosokchon Samgyetang South Korea 土俗村 "Local Customs Village" specializes in Ginseng chicken soup 参鶏湯. Samgyetang is basically a chicken stuffed with ginseng and rice soup. It is made by boiling 30+ medicinal and food ingredients, chestnuts, pine nuts, gingko nuts, garlic, black seasame seeds, brown rice, barley, jujubes, barley, and ginseng together. The milky broth provides much nutritiousness that it will keep you warm throughout winter. This is a filling deep dish and comes with some sides just to give your palate a break. Ginseng chicken soup: 15,000 won each (approx 15 CAD)

Tosokchon Samgyetang South Korea is busy and you will be expected to wait, sometimes over 30 minutes. But it is worth it. Even the former South Korean President Roh Moohyun frequented.

Outside resembles an old house with shingles, brick walls, and wood pillars. The interior consists of floor seating with low long communal tables. It you are tall or stiff bodied, than I hope you do some yoga to prep yourself.

Another popular item on the menu is the Ogolgye Samgyetang (black chicken): 22,000 won. Black chicken promotes blood circulation and very nutritious. Each chicken is slightly smaller compared to the regular spring chickens but again the dish itself is enough to be shared. For experience purposes, we each got our own. Of course, in the end I only ended up drinking the soup.

    Also served"

    • spicy burned chicken soup
    • spicy stew monkfish
    • seafood pancakes
