Milltown Bar & Grill reminds me a lot of the Flying Beaver. Although the address says “Richmond”, it is technically on the Vancouver “Marpole” side of town. It is simply a quick turn off Granville Street / Milton Street – right where Chervron gas station is. At the end of the bend you will find a big, bright red building with superb views of the Fraser River, the airport and the McArthur Glen Outlet Mall at Vancouver Airport.
Inside this former wood mill building are rustic wood, Edison lights, high top communal bar seats and a nice heated patio.
The reasonably priced food menu focuses on pub fare like nachos, burgers, pizzas and a few salad specials.
To start we ordered some beer and some nachos to share.
Loaded Barge Nachos 19: +2.50 Chicken: Crispy chips with loads of cheese, olives, and jalapenos and served with guacamole and salsa.
Daily Special: shrimp and crab sandwich and seafood gumbo soup. This was a mistake and the fact it was completely misrepresented by our waitress. She described it as fresh shrimp with crab meat with avocado on top. Sounds delicious. Unfortunately, when it arrived, it was like a sad mix of diced baby shrimp with scared crab meat smothered in heavy mayo. The avocado? Somewhere mixed in between the mess. The seafood gumbo was a heavy roux mixture that was over-floured, salty and lacked depth.
Smoked Salmon Pizza 15.25: We were debating between The Bayou. The waitress recommended the salmon. This generous sized flatbread came with lemon and dill cream fraiche, capers, mixed greens and topped with house cured salmon lax with a mustard and dill drizzle. I would recommended sharing.
Milltown Burger 13: Juicy house made all beef patty with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickled with house special burger sauce. Add cheese, bacon, mushroom or fried onions for 1.25 each.
Milltown is a great place for lunch and happy hour. I like that it doesn’t get too crowded and is quite close to Richmond. It is even faster to come here than to the battlefield of No.3 Road!

Le Tea 樂茶 is a new bubble tea shop in Richmond. It is located 1161-3779 Sexsmith Road within Continental Mall where Pearl Castle, 0755 Restaurant and Dragon View Chinese Cuisine is. I like how convenient it is next to a plethora of restaurants and cafes. It is perfect for […]

0755 Restaurant and Lounge located in Richmond’s Continental Centre is often mistaken as a drinking bar. They have been opened four years and not once had I imagined that food is served. But it is actually pretty good. It is tasty and the seafood is fresh!
I was invited by ChopStick Festival along with few fellow bloggers for menu tasting.
The interior space offers two sections: dining and lounge. The dining area has bird cage booths and tables in the open space for bigger parties.
Do check out their very eccentric bathrooms lined with rose color mirrors – both inside and outside of the stalls – bathroom selfies literally just for kinkier. Please do not send me pictures thank you very much!
We started off the evening with Some drinks and cocktails. Left to right: Lychee Lick, Geisha, Mango Mojito (mango, mint, lime),Pina Colada (pineapple, coconut, milk), and Baby Dragon (dragon fruit, pineapple, watermelon, kiwi, aloe). All the drinks were pretty tasty albeit on the sweeter side.
Then moving onto appetizers.
Sweet Olive Chin-Yam: These crunchy (Sonngg) roots holds a licorise profile and was drizzled with osmanthus sauce. It is interesting and may not be everyone’s jam.
Pepper Steam Mandarin Fish: It’s funny. At first everyone was scared by the blanket or chilli peppers scattered on top of the fish. Everyone thought it would be firery. Instead, the heat was subtle and the fish was delightfully flavoured.
Spicy and Sour Beef Soup: fatty beef slices, enoki mushrooms in a spicy and sour soup. The spices offers residual heat much like this soup from Chang An.
Sauteed Pea Sprouts in Broth with Preserved Salty Eggs. Century Eggs: Snow pea leaves is one of my favorite Chinese vegetables. Served in a clear broth with century eggs and salt eggs. Goes well with rice.
Stewed Chicken Soup: Individual sized Chinese soup with lots of ingredients of Chicken, red dates, dong sum ginseng. A flavorful soup with depth.
Ice Cream Box Toast: The ice cream and toast breads are made in house. The matcha has a prominent green tea flavour and isn’t too sweet. Served with whipped cream, almond flakes and other tasty garnishes.
Coconut Pudding: Remember the whole coconut soup that I couldn’t stop raving about? Well, this coconut pudding could very well replace that! Young whole coconut is opened and drained.
The coconut water is mixed with gelatin and poured back into the coconut. It is then layered with coconut milk (also mixed with gelatin). Finally it is chilled and served with a theatrical sparkler presentation. This is a very refreshing dessert that is naturally sweet!
Overall 0755 Restaurant and Lounge surprised me. The menu is comprehensive. Even the breakfast menu looks appetizing. Think fried Chinese donut wrapped with a fried egg blanket, sweet soy milk, and dumplings!
If you are stumped and don’t know what to eat in Richmond – consider 0755 and you may be surprised too! If anything; come here for the coconut pudding!

Kirin Richmond is located at Richmond Centre (7900 Westminster Hwy) on the side where The Bay is. I grew up frequently Kirin Coquitlam. Since they moved, it was always difficult to go out of my way to Kirin Starlight or even the Richmond location. Especially if you are looking for a quick fix in the neighbourhood with the Parentals. However, Kirin Richmond offers a lot of specialty dishes that is worth the drive. A change of scenery is always refreshing.

Different from our last epic dim sum chow down we focused on house specials and refined dumplings. Staple favourites always include steamed shrimp dumplings, Siu Main pork dumplings , spareribs and some beef rice rolls.
To highlight a few specialty items worth ordering and repeating.
Steamed Pine Mushroom and Pork Dumpling Filled with Consomme 野生松茸小籠包: Not many people think to order XLB at a non-Shanghainese restaurant. However, these dumplings has a nice juicy fill, thin skin and a touch of pine mushroom for an extra early bite.
Pan Fried Pork Belly and Preserved Vegetable Bun 五花腩梅菜生煎包: these pan fried bun are fragrant and is well balanced between the fatty pork belly and preserved veggies. It is soft but not mushy.
Deep Fried Tofu with Minced Pork 西施肉心豆腐: I almost forgot how much I loved this dish. It comes with a spicy sweet soy sauce for dipping and minced pork center.
Braised Assorted Cow Offal in Chef’s Special Sauce en Casserole 麒麟牛雜煲: a nice mix of cow tripe, spleen, etc with white radish. This is a lighter pot compared to the deep marinade you may be typically accustomed to.
Deep Fried Minced Fish and Chinese Mushroom Bean Curd Roll in Steamed Rice Roll 脆竹魚茸香菇腸粉: another common dish we often order is this rice roll stuffed with minded fish paste in deep fried bean curd. This is like the best of three worlds.
Deep Fried Prawn Dumpling Served with Consommé 上湯煎粉粿
Sparerib in Black Bean Sauce on Steamed Plain Rice Roll en Casserole 豉汁排骨腸粉煲
Steamed Tofu Puff Stuffed with Minced Fish and Dried Shrimp 家鄉蒸釀豆卜
Reservations are highly recommended and they also parking validation. Anyone want to go shopping at Richmond Centre after?

Sugarholic Cafe Richmond inside Aberdeen Centre is a cute cafe that offers Japanese style pasta, desserts and tea variety. The restaurant itself is ultra girly with fancy (but uncomfortable chairs), sparkly chandeliers, floral accents and a white everything aesthetics. Sugarholic is also part of Estea Berevage Club.
Hibiscus Tea: This floral tea has a refreshing tart finish. Hibiscus Tea has benefits to relief from high blood pressure, aid digestion and improve immune system and inflammatory. What I like about it is its appetizing profile that also increases your metabolism. Other teas like Earl Grey, French lavender, etc are available.
Spicy Tomato Basil Mussel Pasta 12.50: I like the subtle heat added to the this pasta. There was 6 juicy plump mussels. Topped with roasted seaweed.
Creamy Masago Pasta with Imitation Crab Meat 9.95: Similar to a mentaiko udon but with spaghetti and added imitation crab. I liked that it was prominent throughout every bite. Soft boiled eggs was a nice add on that we were not expecting.
Golden Trio 11.95: An appetizer sampler with deep fried wings, home made shrimp balls with curry wasabi mayo sauce and Takoyaki nigiri topped with butterfly prawn. This was my least favorite dish. Wings were dry and I didn’t like the loaded spicy sauce. The other two appies were also very underwhelming in terms of flavor and mouth feel.
