Sometimes little things makes me really happy. Take for example my discovery of Seok Gi Si Dae Korean BBQ Restaurant 석기시대 in Coquitlam. I’m excited because it closely resembles joints I’ve been to in South Korea.
Seok Gi Si Dae Korean BBQ Restaurant 석기시대. This authentic Korean restaurant is located on Clark Road (North Road)/ Como Lake beside KFC. It is not glamorous nor trendy but it offers really authentic Korean cuisine. You will find Lee Hyori (KPOP FINKL member if you’re wondering! Beauty!) plastered on the walls and water bottles! Their menu is limited and doesn’t offer you the moon but their specialty BBQ meats are pork belly $15.95 and boneless beef short ribs $20.97 / person and comes with miso soup, rice, and lettuce to wrap your meat in. If your favourite Korean BBQ restaurant does not offer you lettuce or greens, you should ask for it. No place should save a few cents and discount you this experience.
- Rip the lettuce in half along the stem
- Place a small piece of cooked meat
- Add some kimchi, bean sprouts, garlic or other garnish in
- Add some bean paste or chili paste
- Wrap
- Eat!
The overall experience is explosive but the lettuce lightens the greasiness of it all.
There are two separate seating areas – the Westernized table settings and the traditional Korean table settings where you are sitting cross-legged on the floor on cushions. I hope you are flexible or have been going to Yoga for Stiff Bodies because what I found amusing was Dave and a lot of my guy friends had issues sitting over long periods. They ended up standing and walking around. The walls are decorated with Korean lettering which KPOP bops in the background.
Seok Gi Si Dae is a family owned mom and pop restaurant and their son helps out doing the heavy lifting – transported the yummy goodness to your table and the BBQ stoves. Service can get slow if it is really busy, but they are super friendly and attentive is hard to knock them on that. You have to understand. Good food requires patience!

Fry it till the rice starts to char a little. Crispy and a lil spciy. Nom!
