Sanpoutei Ramen Richmond | Japanese Ramen Noodles

It is located within a tiny strip mall between Parker Place and Aberdeen Centre that is only accessible from No 3 Road. There seems to be no peak to this ramen craze here in Vancouver. Earlier in Hapa Ramen, The Ramenman had also opened. I think I should compile a list for the Best Ramen in Vancouver like the one I have for Seattle.

Line ups at Sanpoutei Ramen is crazy long and averages 1-2 hours unless you make a reservation. Arrive before noon. Sanpoutei Ramen comes from a long legacy Niigata prefecture, Japan since 1967. It praises itself of housemade ramen noodles. But does it live up to all the hype? The price for each bowl ranges $13 to $20 is quite expensive.

The ajitama egg was on point: soft and yolky. I enjoyed the aburi chashu. It is soft, tender and has a good mix of fat and lean meat. The noodles on the other hand was disappointment. It was overcooked and soggy.

The special full topping hearty 5 slices of tenderly stewed aburi chashu, flavored soft-boiled egg and vegetables $20.80.

It is made from flavorful seafood imported from Japan. This ramen comes with soft-boiled egg, aburi chashu, dried seaweed and bamboo shoot. Option for the full special experience for 17.80.

Tori Miso Ramen 12.50: A creamy broth with two slices of aburi chashu, ajitama soft boiled egg, veggies and minced chicken. I quite liked the warm umami of the broth but was not a big fan of minced chicken meat. It seems to get lost in the soup itself.

The ramen noodles overcooked and simply does not live up to the hype. Good luck finding parking and waiting in line. I must say I am still quite loyal to Ramen Danbo on  West 4th / Burrard and Marutama Ramen in Downtown Vancouver.
