Salida 7 on 52 Alexander Street is a new Spanish Restaurant in Gastown, Vancouver. It is across from Soft Peaks Ice Cream. The restaurant features both wine and food that are Coastal and Continental Spanish – Paella, Fideua, etc.
The restaurant’s name, Salida 7, is referenced to an exit on the Mediterranean Highway; which passing from Barcelona, leads you directly to beautiful Costa Brava, Salvador Dali’s homeland, with its unique centenary gastronomic and wine making traditions. It is also where the owner Peter Demichev met his wife.
Pescadito Frito con Perejil y Alioli 6: Fried white smelts, escabech, parsey allioli. Although not a very big dish, it is packed full of flavors. The baby white smelts are tender, juicy and meaty. The best part was the allioli with a hint of lemon.
Bombas de Chorizo con Mojo 8: Much like a coquette, these three bombas are filled with cold smoked chorizo, potato, mojo picon, with lemon allioli. The sauce again was the star with a bright peppery tomato flavor.
Paella Tradicional Valenciana 21: This paella with saffron rice is so delicious. A portion that serves two is filled with salt spring mussels, white tiger prawns, sausage, chicken. Served piping hot directly from the pan.
I also highly recommend the Fideua. It is an authentic dish from the Catalan region which includes baked garlic vermicelli and mussels, prawns, clams, scallops and aiolli served in a Spanish Paella style.
We quite enjoyed ourselves at Salida 7. The service was friendly and the food was on point. I love the casual but intimate atmosphere. Certainly, I’m a sucker for a good love story that involves food!
