Congee Noodle House Vancouver 粥麵館 on Main x Broadway is your one stop noodle, rice, and congee house. They are opened late at night and a crowd favorite for many during lunch time. The location is convenient needless to say. The service is prompt but they don’t care much about your personal properties. They will push jam a dirty cart full of dishes right up against your jacket (even when there is clearly not enough room). The floors are sticky and the washrooms are filthy. This place certainly is a winner.
BBQ pork noodles: Thin chewy noodles al dente with a flavorful broth laced with MSG. Addictive I tell you. The BBQ pork is hit and miss. Some days it is very tender, while other days could be tough.
Fish Ball and Rice Noodles: Bouncy with every bite. The balls however lack some serious flavor.
Four Treasure BBQ Rice: The treasures are a mixture of BBQ port, Soy Chicken, Salty Egg, and Roasted Pork. Fatty pieces with a dash of soy.
Salt and Pepper Deep Fried Tofu: Similar to the small fry, these tofu are delicious. But be careful they are soaked with oil inside. Better to wait a little before putting them in your mouth.
Overall, I always feel short changed here. My dry cleaning certainly was more expensive than my meal where portions have shrunk significantly over time. If you are dying for a bowl of decent congee, I suggest Tai Hing Congee and Noodle House 大興粥麵之家 in Richmond.
