Yuu Japanese Tapas Richmond is a small restaurant that offers a lot of variety of contemporary Japanese cuisine in a relaxing atmosphere. Their menu offers wide selection of delicious appetizers, mini hotpots, okonomiyaki, donburi and signature Richmond ramen. For those that have a sweet tooth, they serve parfaits and bubble tea, coffee/lattes, slushes and smoothies. Their ramen has more or a fusion flare than your traditional ramen found at G-Men or Kintaro Ramen.
Take for example this Kimchi Seafood with Jumbo Scallop ramen in tomato Tonkatsu broth $11.99. The broth is nutty and tangy made of tonkatsu stock and plentiful of miso yellow and red miso together. A bit spicy with giant prawn and scallops but you can taste the frozenness of the seafood. The noodles itself wasn’t much, it was not very al dente and may not be filling enough if you are hungry.
Pan Fried Yakisoba – this came in a generous sized mini wok and had Japanese styled BBQ pork, vegetables and some seaweed for garnish. This was enough to share at a reasonable price of $8.99.
Given that it is located in the same mall (Continental Plaza) as Gyo-O, Pearl Castle and Deer Garden, I’m not sure I find great value in a bowl of ramen at $11.99. I can easily hope over to Gyo-O or even over to G-Men on Alexandra for a quality ramen. Speaking of which I am getting a little bit thirsty! Seems to me MSG is at play. It has to be the culprit since I did not drink much of the soup.
