What is the best way to appreciate olive oil? The best ways to appreciate fresh olive oils is to taste them side by side with other olive oils. The richness, dense flavours can now be compared with others immediately. No longer will I have to buy a large bottle home only to dislike it. Tasting rooms are now on the rise (especially in the States) – salt, mustard, wine, and even olive oil. Vancouver Olive Oil Company is a olive oil tasting room located in Kitsilano.
Vancouver Olive Oil Company is one of its first in Vancouver, BC. Located in the Kitsilano / Point Grey neighbourhood on West 4th. Rows of olive oil in shining silver taps fills the room with Extra Virgin, Infused, White, Dark, Balsamic olive oils… This quaint little shop opened just 4.5 months ago (April 2012) and can be easily missed if you are not a local in the area or star chefs. In fact, we didn’t even know about it until we walked down West 4th to explore Greek Day. What a pleasant surprise!
All oils only have a shelf life of one year before the owner tosses them out. Sourced from all over the world from Northern to Southern hemisphere to bring Vancouverites the freshest seasonal ingredients….
Once you’ve found your love, you can take it home in small, medium, or large bottles for under $20!
The Michaelanne Buckley and the ladies here are super friendly and helpful… I’m sure these olive oil sommeliers will give you Olive Oil 101 any time! So what is the scientific explanation in a good tasting olive oil? How do you bring out the best in an oil? Warm it up, take a whiff and take a swig. Sounds like drinking vino!
I have to say thought after a few drizzle with a mouth full of oil, I really wish they had some bread and balsamic vinegar for me to wash sliminess away.
