Urban Thai Bistro Yaletown has been around since 2000. It is located on Hamilton Street neighboring Blue Water Cafe, Milestones and Blenz. I always seem to get lost for directions when I’m in Yaletown and rely heavily on landmarks. We were invited to sample Urban Thai Bistro’s Happy Hour menu over a few cocktails. It’s been awhile since I was last here… The staff was just as friendly and welcoming as I remembered.
Don’t look at the Pink Elephant in the room! 🐘💕〰 Bet you can’t stop looking now! 😂 this girly virgin drink is made w blend of lime and grapefruit juice with a hint of grenadine! @urbanthaiyaletown #urbanthaibistro #instanomss @TangooNights #TangooTribe #TangooTaster #vancouver #yaletown @iyaletown #drinks #cocktail ___
Starting off the evening was this delicious virgin Royal Thai cocktail made with lychees and low fat coconut milk. I love this tropical taste minus the alcohol.
Introducing their Appy / Happy Hour daily between 3 to 6:30 pm. Choose from a variety of spring rolls, deep fried calamari, Urban Thai shrimp balls, wings, BBQ chicken and satays for $6. Salad options like their new spicy BBQ Beef, spicy thai prawns salad, chicken lettuce wrap and Som Tum Papaya salads for $8.
Appy Platter: six items for $34. Mix of fish cakes, Thai BBQ Port, Chicken Satay with peanut sauce, Crispy Fish with homemade sauce, and Thai Shrimp balls.
Spicy Thai Prawn Salad: A nice individual size with a few bouncy prawns.
Spicy BBQ Beef Salad: reminds me of shredded beef jerky mixed with greens and a spicy vinaigrette.
By now it was getting late and we ordered off the a la carte menu
Keang Keaw Waan 16.50: Green curry with coconut milk, eggplant, peas, bell peppers and fresh basil. Your choice of chicken, beef , pork , tofu or mixed seasonal vegetables. This not so spicy curry is a good introduction to someone who’s never had Thai curry. It is suitable for the Western palate.
Pad Thai: Stir-fried rice noodles, tofu, eggs, bean sprouts, chives, topped with ground peanuts. Your choice of:
- Shrimp or vegetarian 13.50
- Tiger prawns 15.50
- Soft shell crab 16
Talay Dued 18.50: Served on a hot plate. Assorted seafood sautéed with bell peppers, mushrooms, carrots, green onions, basil leaves and Thai herbs in chili paste sauce. A great dish to go with rice.
Deep Fried banana served with mango ice cream with a side of black sticky rice pudding. A warm tropical dessert to cap off the evening. I’m looking forward to when mangoes are in season and I can order mango sticky rice pudding! So good!
