Truffles Fine Foods Catering & Cafe is located inside Van Dusen Garden and apparently offers afternoon
high tea. I was expecting something similar to the Shaughnessy Restaurant than what I experienced. I came here for the first time with my friend Debbie. It was our first time. We even took the effort to make reservation, as you should with any establishment offering high tea. But instead we arrived to a cafeteria, a free-for-all, take a number, and seat yourself kinda place. We had a tiny coffee table at the corner marked “reserved” with uncomfortable chairs that desperately needed some new foam.
This place was a total disappointment and with terrible service.
The hostess, the girl that worked at the front till could have easily told us there is service, that we had to line up, and select our own afternoon tea set… but she didn’t. After about 5 mins, we figured it out while people watching. The “afternoon tea” set consisted of your choice of pre-made sandwiches or paninis, catered carb-heavy pastries, macarons resting behind glass shelves, and tea from a variety of tea-bags boxes on the counter. No thanks. This is perhaps why prices were so reasonable for an afternoon tea.
Black Cherry Cheesecake: a creamy New York style cheesecake with rum cherries. This was by far the best item on the menu.
Take a number and seat yourself pretty much sums Truffles Fine Foods to a T. Bon Appetite!
