Top Shanghai Cuisine 上海一只鼎 is one of those traditional Shanghai restaurants in Richmond. It is located between Lansdowne and Richmond Brighouse skytrain stations beside PriceSmart Foods on No 3 Road. The restaurant itself is quite small and crammed and service isn’t particularly friendly. In fact, it is borderline rude at times. Nonetheless, we enjoy the food. So we put up with it.
Spiced Smoke Fish 8.99: This is a cold appetizer dish that is marinated with dark soy, shaoxing wine, sugar , five spices and a dash of sesame oil. The fish is meaty and still quite moist.
Salted Duck 8.99: Another cold appetizer dish where the duck is cooked in salt water and then chilled. The duck may appear bland, but it is tasty and tender. We often like to make this version with chicken wings at home.
Dry Fried Green Beans with Minced Pork 12.99: Robust and rich flavors that is slightly spicy. Green beans has a great bite. The minced pork and the sauce is great to add to a bowl of fragrant jasmine rice!
Quick Fried Shrimp with Oil: Flash fried with a toss of oil, dark soy and sugar. The shrimp were fresh and bouncy. Flavorful with a light sweet and salty finish. The shells are crispy!
Soup Dumplings Nanxiang style aka Xiao Long Bao 小籠包 5.50: Juicy and has a lot of soup filling. The skin is thin and does not break when you pick it up.
Pan Fried Turnip Cake 5.50: Shredded turnip inside a soft shell with sesame and pan fried. Very fragrant and is one of my favorite Shanghai dim sum dishes. Always great to add some chili sauce to it.
Beef Brisket Noodle Soup: Good depth of flavor in the soup and also in the marinated beef brisket. The beef brisket is quite tender and soft.
