New Year’s resolutions are a bit like a diet plan. They are fun to make but extremely difficult to maintain. While many are just recovering from seasonal blues now that Christmas and the holidays are over; It is time to be proactive and grab 2016 by the horns so to speak. Sure, 2015 changed a lot of me – I’ve grown so much as a person but also think there’s so much I would have done differently wanted to do more of. So here I offer you my Top 7 Healthiest New Year’s Resolution plans to become a better and healthier person overall.

Healthy Living not Diet

One of the top New Year’s resolution surveyed, losing weight and dieting always comes out top of people’s “new year, new you” plan. While it is at good intentions, I always find that if I say I want to lose ten pounds, the ten pounds doesn’t always permanently go away. Instead, I want to commit to healthier eating habits (less processed and less simple sugars). Instead of ordering a pop, option for fresh cold pressed juices or invest in a juicer like the Breville Juice Fountain and make fresh nutritious drinks.

Stay Fit and Challenge Myself

Too much eggnog over the holidays? Had one too many chocolate cakes? Whichever the case, if you’re pants are feeling a little snug… It is time to get off that lazy ass and get your sweat on! I am totally guilty during the holidays that I shrug of that spin class and say I will do it next week. But did you know that it takes an average person about 21 days to form a new habit (good or bad). And muscle memory and endurance gained significantly disappears in just 48 to 72 hours?!

Plan Early

We’ve all been there. We get so busy we get side-tracked or we procrastinate and lose sight of a killer marketing campaign during the holiday season. It happens when we try to balance work and personal lives. As small business owners, professionals, marketing creatives, super mom/dad/wives/husbands… we all just wish more time.

Sometimes all it takes is simply planning ahead much earlier than you need. A calendar or agenda. I particular love these personalized monogrammed classy agendas. Large organizational wall calendars are also helpful and lets you pin up and hang notes and photos within sight.

Aim for at least two to three months lead time for your promotions. This way you can make sure you have everything including high quality creatives ready for launch day! You don’t want to be scrambling the night before posting next day’s launch. Stressful!!

Spend Less, Choose Well

I am a continuous shopper and I like pretty things. There is no shame in that. However there is also a smart way of spending money. Spending your hard earned money on interest payments? Not so much!

Credit cards can be comes in handy when booking a flight, travelling or when shopping online. Use it when you know you can pay it off right away. Sleep More, Sleep Early

I am a grandma. I like to sleep early when I can. But I am also a hypocrite because I love to watch Netflix and chill. Sometimes binge watch a show or two. Somethings surf the Internet a little too long before bed.

A lack of sleep has been linked to all sorts of wrongs: stress, obesity, type 2 diabetes, mood and overall well being.

My goal in 2016 is to sleep by 11pm (when I can). Because, let’s face it, skincare ain’t cheap. So if you are feeling fatigued and have memory loss, take a nap – and don’t feel guilty about it!

Travel More

Travelling is so rewarding and brings our long lasting memories. Whether it is a short vacation like Montreal and San Francisco or a long vacation like MexicoHong Kong, South Korea or Taiwan it makes you feel rejuvenated and replenished. It helps fuel your creative mind and break routine. It’s learning new surroundings and embarking on new adventures that spark your drive. It is just great for the body and soul.

To Be More Personal

It took me a few years to drop the curtain between me and my blog. Yes, it has taken me this long to feel ok sharing my face here. What does my face have to do with food journalism or lifestyle features anyways?

But as I share this with so many of my blogger friends, it can actually very therapeutic to share more of yourself. Those following Nomss since 2011 probably don’t know much about me besides that I like food.

So, aside to be more personal with you, I am also challenging myself to step out of my comfort zone.
