Toku Japanese Restaurant 德日本料理 is a recently opened new sushi joint that opened in Lansdowne Mall beside Earls. Toku took over the space that Sui Sha Ya 水車屋日本料理 used to occupy. I am so glad it is no longer a AYCE restaurant anymore. Toku is nicely renovated with a center bar area and plenty of booth seats. Service is friendly and food arrived prompt. There are plenty of lunch and dinner specials that are well portioned.
Wagyu Beef Sushi Nigiri 3/each piece: For three bux, this wagyu beef sushi was not bad. It pretty tendor and soft; however, it is not the same as Miku’s $8 wagyu sushi (it is so buttery).
Rainbow Roll 12: I love this rainbow roll. It is packed with a lot of fresh salmon, tuna, prawn sashimi. Filled with a California roll center made with avocado and imitation crab meat.
Beef Sashimi 10: This beef sashimi plate wasn’t the best cut. It wasn’t very tender nor buttery. There was a few tough bites.
Unagi Donburi 15: This lunch set unagi rice bowl was awesome. It is delicious with plenty of warm, juicy grilled eels. Comes with oshinko Japanese pickled radish. I highly recommend this.
Katsu Curry Set 13: This lunch set has a good size tonkatsu deep fried breaded pork cutlet with Japanese curry and rice. It is not very salty nor spicy.
Hamachi Kama 12: Grilled hamachi yellow tail fish. Slightly charred and still pretty moist.
Three Types of Sashimi 25: Today was hamachi, tuna and salmon. Three pieces each. The sashimi was quiet fresh and each piece was pretty thick.
Overall, everything was pretty solid here. I do hope they keep the quality and service consistent. If they can bring is more premium sashimi selections that would be better.
