To Hot HotPot is a brand new hot pot restaurant located in Richmond at 8171 Ackroyd Road (where Chapters used to be). This Chinese restaurant is so new there that you can not even Google it. Usually we like having hot pot in winter times, but To Hot is big with high ceilings with great air conditioning! To Hot Hot Pot is not an AYCE Hot Pot restaurant.
We were invited by ChopStick Festival along with few fellow bloggers for menu tasting.
Chopstick Festival is Vancouver’s first Chinese cuisine festival between Oct 15-30, 2016. It is similar to Vancouver’s Dine Out Festival and Taste of Yaletown. Participating restaurants will offer a unique prix-fixe menu to showcase their take on Chinese food. This is exciting to see a gathering of Chinese cuisines and restaurants.
In the center of the restaurant is a sauce and herbs station with all sorts of variety: sesame oil, various chili oil, satay, garlic, cilantro, etc. The problem is there is no English for my Chinese illiterate friends. I read Chinese but even I struggled to find where the soy sauce was. God forbid I mix up the black vinegar with this!
What is cool about To Hot Hot Pot is that they have this really awesome and innovate payment system. It is fully automated and even has a touch screen for you to select your choice of soup base, drinks and a la carte dishes. A Compass Card / Octopus Card like chip is provided for you to check out your food from the fridge.
Everything is nicely displayed. Each tray has a built in chip that knows exactly what each item is and how much. When you place it at the check out counter, the total is automated calculated for you. Tap the “payment card” and you are free to go eat.
We optioned for soups: one spicy mala and one pork bone tonkotsu.
Fatty beef makes and breaks every hot pot.
Three tier food trays are provided at each table for you to stack your food. This is so much better than those wobbly tv stands other restaurants provide (if they even have that available).
Deep fried steam buns with condense milk.
Deep fried pork tenders with peppercorn. This is very tongue numbing and recommended if you can handle your spice!
Winter melon juice and sour plum juices. These are great to quench your thirst and suppress the heat.
I quite enjoyed everything at To Hot. The environment is clean, staff are friendly and I just love cool technology! The inner geek in me approves. I can’t wait to come back with friends and family!
