It’s been awhile since we’ve been back to The Acorn on Main Street. It is located on the corner of 24th Ave and across from Nomad. We were particularly craving some good healthy portions of gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian fare. I love the tiki bar vibe of the restaurant and bar.
Menu focuses around fresh, locally sourced ingredients that are seasonally appropriate. Portions are decent, but it is best to order a few appetizers and entrees to be fully satisfied.
Soup 11: Daily soup was a shishito pepper, pumpkin soup. A subtle spicy and heated soup perfect for winter seasons.
Squash 11: Raw Almond Ricotta, Marinated and Pickled Squash, Squash Flax Seed Bread, Nasturtium Purée, Spiced Pumpkin Seed and Almond Crumb.
The best thing of this dish was the raw almond ricotta cheese. I love the mouth feel of it. Safe for pregnant ladies like me who misses soft cheeses but don’t need to worry about unpasteurized cheeses. Everything else was bland and frankly not very exciting.
Halloumi 21: Beer battered deep fried cheese, Zucchini + Potato Pancake, Smashed Peas, Mint Yogurt, Acorn Garden Lemon Balm. Load of on the lemon juice to make this dish more palatable. This dish is pretty filling and I must say I quite liked the mushy peas.
Harvest 20: Today’s Acorn Winter Harvest includes this beautiful chanterelle mushroom risotto, paired with Brussel sprouts, and salted cured egg yolk.
I love seasonal vegetables and herbs but not quite sure I would return quickly. Flavors were not very exciting and lacked punch. Gosh, I miss Portland!!
