Takeya Sushi Richmond is awesome. Table for One is not the most ideal way to spend my lunch hour. But sometimes in between meetings and running errands it is hard to avoid. Something about eating alone that makes everything a little bit lonely. So I need somewhere with prompt service, quick turnaround yet I do not want to forgo quality – especially when it comes to Japanese food mainly because there is raw fish involved.
Takeya Sushi 竹屋 is located next to Safeway inside a strip mall on No 1 Road between Francis and Blundell Road. This is the express sister restaurant to Steveston iconic Ichiro. Takeya offers take-out, counter seats for a fast and convenient enjoyment of sushi and bento boxes. The décor is humble and there isn’t a lot of flash. The prices are extremely reasonable, yet the ingredients and the quality is first class.
The Takeya Chirashi Don 12.75
This is the special chirashi don compared to the regular one for $8.95. This one includes some incredibly fresh uni (sea urchin) along with salmon, tuna, ikura, chopped imitation crab and scallop, hokigai, saba mackerel and of course tamago. This generous portion is filling but it doesn’t leave me feeling the burn in my wallet long after I return to the office.
If you are ever in the area and also which to dine for one or perhaps bring a date, this is a fine choice. And if you are feeling like you need a treat, head over to Steveston to have a nice sit down dinner at Ichiro!
