天府 Legend House Coquitlam Town Centre recently opened in the summer. I am so happy to have more selection of a variety of Szechuan and Shanghai restaurant in Coquitlam. Legend House has some really juicy soup dumplings – XLB. The restaurant is bright and spacious. In the […]
Long’s Noodle House Vancouver 小龍記麵家 is located on Main Street beside Au Petite Cafe. The space is super small and perhaps no bigger than someone’s master bedroom. Despite the limited space and long line up during lunch and dinner, they have one of the best drunken […]
Din Tai Fung Dumpling House first found its claim to fame in Taipei, Taiwan. The juicy soup dumplings Xiao Long Bao 小籠包 touched many people and quickly become one of the world’s top 10 restaurants by The New York Times. It grew nationwide and even expanded to Bellevue – located in Bellevue Square.
The Bellevue Din Tai Fung Dumpling House branch is constantly busy with line ups out the door. The open kitchen concept allows us boring patrons waiting for a table to get a glimpse of the action inside. Here you will find alot of Latino chefs, something I am not used seeing wrapping those precious little dumplings. I’m sure DTF has got this under a formula.
I like the concept of checking off what you want. It saves time and it minimizes the chances of errors. The majority of staff are not Asian here. Service is always friendly and prompt.
We sat the the bar while waiting for our table. The well stocked bar has an array of libations and it even has my favorite Maccalan 25.
Sweet and Sour Spareribs 7.00: A cold appetizer of tender ribs marinated with sweet and sour syrup. Think honey and soy with some vinegar.
XLB Soup Dumpings: These were not magical. The skin was thick and there weren’t enough juicy goodness inside each dumpling. I expected wonders since this place is always talked about. I find that Shanghai Morning or Shanghai River in Richmond to be more satisfying! But of course, Din Tai Fung is one of the best XLB in Bellevue. Let’s see how it compares to then Taipei one when I go next month.
Preserved Vegetables and Shredded Pork Noodles: A light tasting broth with not a lot of flavours. The pork does not seemed to be marinated at all. Portion wise it was decent.
The Bellevue Square area offers a lot of great restaurant choices. But when you are craving some Asian food and perhaps on a lighter portion size, Din Tai Fung makes a great alternative. Just don’t expect magic or be misguided that it is one of the world’s top 10.

So as we mentioned last time, Shanghai Morning Restaurant 小南國上海小吃 is now the new Chen’s Shanghai Kitchen 白玉蘭餐館 and we were ecstatic to have a new favorite place to satisfy our XLB cravings. Oh those juicy soup dumplings. Shanghai Morning isn’t just a one song […]
I think discovering a dive, having the courage to go in and sample their dishes and being amazed by the authenticity is one of the happiest experiences a foodie would have. That is how I found Lucky Gate. At the end of the day, I […]
