Smitty’s Oyster House over on the Sunshine Coast in Gibson’s Wharf is a fine oyster bar right on the docks (just down the street from Molly’s Reach). Smitty’s is opened by the same folks over at Rodney’s Oyster House and featured on You Gotta Eat Here on Food Network. We’re here on the Vancouver Island for the long weekend and it is one of the best seafood restaurants in Gibsons.
Before I get into the food, take a look at the beautiful view at the wharf. It is even more beautiful during sunsets. If you are lucky, you may get to catch some fireworks too! Come early in the morning if you want to buy some fresh seafood and bring it back to the cabin or throw it on the barbie!
Fresh Raw Oysters: daily fresh selection. Nothing beats fresh oysters with lemon juice and fresh ground pepper. Comes with an assortment of cocktails sauces and vinaigrette.
Hazelnut Chocolate Mousse 7: Frangelico and Rich Callebaut Dark Chocolate Mousse. We like it because it wasn’t too sweet!
Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee 7: Classic French Custard with Caramelized Top
But really, here is the place for oysters and drinks. Everything else is secondary.
Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar Vancouver at the Sutton Place Hotel launched a new Happy Hour menu that is available from 3:30 to 5:30 pm! The new Happy Hour menu gives us a new reason to work harder and punch out at the end of […]
Sushinori Japanese Eatery is a little Japanese Restaurant on Cambie and Broadway. Being close to the Cityhall Skytrain station makes this place extremely busy during peak hours ex. lunch time. The space is tiny with limited tables. Order first and seat yourself after. Service is friendly but sometimes they forget to clear and wipe the tables for you.
We love the brightly lit space filled with natural light. The menu has a good selection of seafood sashimi bowls served with brown rice. Add $2.50 to upgrade your order to a meal with your choice of 1. one ice or hot drinks; and 2. enoki miso soup or matcha ice cream.
Wild Salmon Carpaccio Bowl 10.50: Looks as pretty as it tastes. Pretty bright colors, greens, and served with brown rice. A good light lunch bowl.
Unagi Kabayaki 12: Loads of unagi grilled eel and a soft boiled egg. Flavors was rather bland. Added an green ice tea with matcha ice cream to complete this meal for $2.50 more.
Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream: Wish there was maybe a swirl or more to go with this tiny cup. Otherwise, is a nice finish to my meal.
Sushinori Japanese restaurant is a pretty good quick place for lunch or if you are looking for something on the lighter side. It is expensive for the portion and nothing really stood out. Paying $13-15 for lunch and still hungry isn’t my idea of good value. Plus, we are still rather turned off by a dirty table (even after we asked for it to be cleaned).
Nothing more than just a pretty face.

Sushi Mori Coquitlam is now closed due to fire. Fire crews were called to Sushi Mori Restaurant in Eagle Ridge Square around 1:30am earlier this month. There are quite a few good Japanese restaurants in Coquitlam compared to Sushi Mori.
What I like, or did like about Sushi Mori is the decoration of sukura trees and wooden booth seats. There is a wide selection of signature rolls that is not limited to a Negitoro or California Roll.
Midnight Sun Roll: Crab meat, avocado, cucumber, unagi, sockeye salmon and wakame seaweed.
California Roll and Negitoro Roll: Two classic rolls that I love ordering every time. The negitoro could use some extra green onions.
Happy Mango Roll: Mango, tuna on California roll with green bean.
Prawn tempura: Large ebi pieces with heavy tempura batter. It was too chewy and floury especially near the end.
If you really miss Sushi Mori being burned down, they also have a shop in Langley at Willowbrook.

I don’t worry about whether our chowders are authentic or not. I just know the best seafood clam chowder is a bowl full of hearty flavors and an abundance of fresh ingredients. It is delicious and you are too busy asking for seconds! Inspired by the […]
Yue Delicacy Richmond 鮑粵軒 is a Chinese restaurant that recently opened on No 3 Road and Alexandra Road beside Kam Ho Restaurant 金豪麵家. Yue Delicacy took over the space from Lucky Tao Chinese Seafood Restaurant 陶陶居. After renovation, the space looks rather small with a maximum of twelve to fifteen tables. Tables are dressed with white crisp table clothes and the place is clean. The Pu’erh tea was very fragrant which we quite enjoyed.
We came to Yue Delicacy for dim sum and each dish averages 4.75, 6.95 to $8.95. Sticker prices are on the high end with average portions and flavors.
Preserved Egg and Shredded Pork Congee 8.95: good consistency without being too watery. Slightly too salty.
Pan Fried Pea Tip Vegetables with Garlic 10.95: a very small portion to be worth $11 albeit seasoned well and not overcooked.
Pan Fried Rice Roll with Soy Sauce 6.95: good and not too mushy. Served with peanut sesame and hoisin sauce for dipping.
Traditional Cantonese Cake 4.75: Similar to Chef Tony, it is made with black sugar. This sponge cake is fluffy and not too sweet. Would order again.
Steamed beef tendon and tripe 4.75: Well marinated and slightly spicy.
Steamed Scallop Dumplings with Truffle Oil 5.50: Three big dumplings with a good sized scallop and tobiko roe. The dumpling skin was also on the thicker side. Overall a pretty good steamed shrimp dumpling. The truffle oil was not too overwhelming.
Steamed Mince Pork Dumpling 4.75: Least favorite of all the dishes. The dumpling skin was very thick, minced pork meat mushy. Overall this steamed dumpling tasted old. This was an underwhelming dish which we left most unfinished.
With so many good Chinese restaurants and dim sum places to go to in Richmond. We probably wouldn’t come back ourselves. Hoping this place improves. But would be interested to check out their dinner menu.

富豪酒家 Grand Palace Restaurant Coquitlam opened more than 2 years ago. After Kirin Coquitlam closed in Henderson Mall (across from Coquitlam Centre), we were afraid there would not be a decent dim sum restaurant in Coquitlam. Luckily, Grand Palace slowly proved to have some […]
Taking over the space which used to occupy Hon’s Wun-Tun House is Chef Tony Seafood Restaurant 頤東大酒樓 in Richmond. It is located inside Empire Centre where the best claypot rice James Snacks 占士叻煲仔飯 and Double Double Restaurant 老油條大牌檔 is. When you first enter, it’s hard not to be taken aback […]
