Fortune Terrace Chinese Cuisine 福滿樓海鮮酒家 is a high-end Chinese seafood restaurant located in Richmond by the Richmond Oval – next to Ora a large scale residential community with T&T Supermarket. The restaurant is spacious with a large screen projection screen (perfect for weddings). Service is friendly and was not pretentious.
There is a good variety of dim sum selection on the menu: steamed, deep fried, marinated, braised and plenty of specialty items. Channeling Yum Cha HK, they’ve even got those super cute Boas with eyes and pig faces!
It’s not often you see grown men and women playing with their food! Of course, this salty egg yolk bun was soft and moist with a creamy center filling.
Steamed Shrimp Dumplings: Although it was $9 per order, there was five pieces. Thin skin and has a bouncy mouthfeel. There was nothing to complain about these Ha Gaws.
Deep Fried Mince Pork Dumplings: A like the gelatinous dough with a salty center of minced pork. The portions were a little small and leaves you begging for more.
Steamed Beef Balls
Special Steamed Rice Rolls with Tofu, Scallops and Eggplant: Not exactly a “roll” but this was one of our favourite dishes. The filling is tasty but is hard to share if you have more than four people.
Steamed Marinated Beef Tripe: I like the marinated flavours of stay and jalapeno. The tripe is soft and tender.
Truffle Siu Mai: These bite size pork dumplings has a mild taste of truffle that is not too over-powering.
Snow Pea Tips: Served with consomme and lots of dried shrimp.
Fortune Terrace has a few hits and misses but has a good variety of dishes. We like to come here for yum cha since it is close to work and there are plenty of free parking underground. Price point is on the higher end, but it isn’t over the top when you compare other newer Chinese restaurants in the area.

R&H Chinese Food is located in Lansdowne Centre’s Food Court. Unlike your typical fast food burgers, greasy spoons and teppanyaki, they offer some really delicious Chinese Shanghainese options! Their menu has a good variety of noodles, dumplings and other snacks great for sharing.
Steamed Soup Dumplings: In particular, I really enjoyed their Xiao Long Bao. Very juicy soup filling with a thin skin. The meat was not mushy and well flavored.
Beef Wrap: These beef wrap were also very flavorful. The beef itself was well marinated and melts in your mouth. The wrap was not too dense and has a nice warm crispiness.
I can’t wait to return again to try their pan fried soup dumpling and their spicy noodles. Who says you can’t find good eats in a food court?!

Samsoonie Noodle and Rice is a dive-y Korean restaurant in Richmond. It is located at 8211 Westminster Hwy. The place looks beat and could use a face lift. Regardless, this place is busy and it’s a good idea to make reservations.
They offer a good selection of Korean cuisine ranging from bosaam, mandu dumplings, bimbimbap stone rice and Korean Ramen noodles (instant and regular).
Pan Fried Dumplings: Nice crispy pan fried skin with a juicy filing inside. I like that it was meaty and plump.
Bosaam: a plate of pork belly served with vegetables and spicy pickled radishes and jalapenos. The meat was tender but I wished it was there was some way to keep the plate hot. Our meat got cold pretty fast.
Spicy Beef Noodles: I would not recommend this. The broth is no different than pre-packaged instant kimchi ramen and lacked profile. There was not enough broth and just meh overall.
Ban Chan: Kimchi and seaweed. The table complimentary dishes were weak and could offer a better selection.

L’otus Cake Boutique took over the old Moma Bistro location at 8580 Cambie Road (across Continental Centre at Sexsmith Road). For the dessert lover, this place offers mille crepe cakes with a variety of flavors like fresh mango, strawberries, Blue Earl Grey, Creme Brulee and Match Green Tea. Aside from the classic French cake with alternating layers of crepe, L’otus also offers Nai Dong rolled cakes and other delicious goodies like Mont Blanc and cheesecakes. But it’s not cheap. Mille crepe cakes start at $8.50 to $14.
While waiting for my friend to arrive, I ordered a floral herbal tea with Strawberries. It is appetizing, bright and subtly tart.
Blue Earl Grey: The flavor was intense and aromatic with refined Bergamot and Royal Blue Flower. The first slice was tender and soft. Unfortunately, the edges were hard and chewy. Had it been also soft and moist it would have been a nice alternative to Lady M (even though we can’t get any here in Vancouver!!).
Creme Brulee: Light Madagascar vanilla bean pastry cream with a caramelized sugar topping. The topping isn’t crunchy. I like the nice light flavor profile which isn’t too sweet and perfect for the average Asian taste bud.
Mocha: A nice chocholately latte to round up an afternoon of sweet treats.
L’otus closes early at 6pm and reservation of cakes is highly recommended. I’m looking forward to trying the Matcha and mango mille crepe again and would even overlook the hard edges.
What’s your favorite flavor?
