Hastings is a scary street. It became a national concern with Downtown East Side. I grew up going to church in Chinatown and would often trek down to Hastings. I was fearful as it seems like I am in a Zombie movie where mindless individuals as high as a kite would walk in the opposite direction. It was dirty, it was stinky. Boy… has this street ever changed. Catch 122 Cafe Bistro Vancouver Gastown is located in the heart of West Hastings, is an excellent choice for breakfast and lunch. It offers an array of takeout choices for the individuals. On the other hand, if you have time, be sure to spend some time in the restaurant do so because there is a spin class next door! You will burn those extra calories.
The décor inside maintained the exposed brick walls, open concept kitchen and bar, and ample seating arrangements. What has drawn my attention is the history pictures of Vancouver displayed on the wall. What a more perfect location to display the transformation of Vancouver than a restaurant on the street of Hastings.
Let’s check out the menu. Simple print out menu attached on a bulletin board.
We selected two sandwiches and poutine.
First off, Duck Confit $11.95: Yarrow Meadows duck leg confit, French dijon mustard, arugula, and fresh baked baguette.
I want to love this one so bad, embrace it and make food porn love to it. When it came, I embraced it in my arms, and spread the bread to see the fillings inside. I see a generous amount of duck meat covered in dijon, my mouth was watering up and I’m about to dig in. After my first bite I suddenly felt a strong burn in sinuses. There was so much dijon in there that I couldn’t taste the duck. I don’t know if it felt like love anymore. If I can compare, it felt like I skipped the romantic details of 50 Shades Of Grey and jumped directly in the rough sex part.
Slow Roasted Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese $12
Catch 122 special BBQ sauce, caramelized red onion, coleslaw, Havarti cheese, grilled Panini.
This is where to romance comes in. Everything in here was to aid the pulled pork. The BBQ sauce, caramelized onions, coleslaw help bring the favor to the pulled pork. The succulent pork covered in coleslaw was packed with flavor.
Pulled Pork Applewood Smoked Cheddar Poutine $7.5
I liked the simplicity approach with this poutine. For once the fries weren’t smothered with melted cheese, sauce, and curds. The smokiness of the smoked cheddar combined with the garnish is a great way to finish off the menu.
BTW, we had some French press coffee to wake ourselves up.
Don’t want to cook, perhaps take out some ready to go items!

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been hanging out around East Hastings because I grew up in a time where my mother was a seamstress and there were lots of factories around that area. On the corner of this old East Hastings stress is […]
