Limited Edition Silver with Swarovski Crystal Starbucks Card The limited edition Silver Starbucks Card adorned with Swarovski crystals is here! Get it while supplies last. Last year I had to run around a few stores to get the Sterling Silver 925 card. It is…
I love the big window seats at the front of the coffee shop. I love the natural light and the high chairs. It is perfect for people watching and for those cortado Instagram photos. Exposed bricks and high ceilings fill the open space. At the back there are booth seats in a ‘caboose’ like setting.
The coffee it is rich, chocolatety and has a hint of caramel smoothness. I like smooth, earthy and nutty blends. It is definitely on my every growing list of ‘best coffee shops in Vancouver’. Glad I will be working this into heavy rotation. For my guilty indulgences, they have sparkling water on tap! Something Elysian has removed from self-serve access.
Enjoy a pastry or some Matcha green tea Belgian waffles to accompany your coffee. If you prefer, they will heat it up slightly.
And after? Head down to Gastown for some shopping and transition into a nearby restaurant for dinner!

Greenhorn Espresso Cafe Vancouver located on a quiet corner of Nicola Street and Nelson. I was first attracted to this independent coffee shop because of its decor and record collection. Getting to Greenhorn coffee shop wasn’t exactly easiest with multiple one-way, no exit and the…
Life is too short for bad coffee. A good cup of coffee is important to us throughout the day; especially when you want to pound the alarm at 6am! Anyone bleeding espresso will know the importance of a fine cup of coffee. It can either make or break your day. The folks at Mondo Cafe recently sent us a care package of their Carnevale Brazilian Dark Roast, the Roma Blend Dark Roast, and Mondo Café by Musetti Espresso Roast with a hint of Chocolate.
WIN Mondo Cafe Coffee Prize Pack and a Philips Saeco Espresso Machine Contest worth over $1100 Contest at the end of the post!
Honestly I have to say I am quite hooked on Mondo Cafe’s coffee. It is locally roasted in Vancouver, BC and is a premium roast with excellent value. It has a nice full body and a great aroma!
Waking up to a freshly brewed pot of the Carnevale Brazilian Dark Roast is everything. This Carnevale is bold with a sweet, nutty, and has a hint of chocolate. Very mellow acidity, 100% Brazilian Arabica beans, and a smooth, rich taste! The Carnevale comes in both whole beans and grounds.
Carpe Diem. It is very important to seize the day and enjoy every moment. There is beauty in chaos and serenity in the busyness of every day life. The smell of aromatic coffee beans is intoxicating! Take those “Mondo Moments” and relax (if even for 5 minutes).
I keep a fresh supply of Mondo Cafe’s Roma Blend Dark Roast in the office. This bold but balanced roast premium coffee beans from Colombia, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. It is full-flavored and well-rounded cup of coffee. The Roma blend is my perfect cup for a day spreadsheets-and-reports-heavy.
When I’m not in the office, be sure I am smashing emails, trying to create something, or catching up with life’s important VIP’s! Don’t forget to take a little “me” time to re-group, self-center and be grateful.
Brewing coffee with a Moka Stovetop is a fantastic way to get really smooth espresso coffee in your home. Not sure whether to have a coffee or a cocktail after dinner? Mondo Cafe has a few awesome recipes that can help you. Watch for a new #FridayCoffeeCocktails recipe over on their Instagram.
Tonight we made a cup of the Musetti Arabica Medium Roast. This sweet and delicate blend has a pleasant degree of acidity, typical of Central American coffee beans. This 100% Arabica roast’s beans originate from Brazil, Central America, Guatemala and Ethiopia. The Arabica mixture is perfect for an espresso. It has a low quantity of caffeine – suitable for everyone and for after dinner.

Basho Cafe Vancouver on East Hastings, a block east of Victoria Drive. Basho is a cute, cozy Japanese cafe specializing in lunch sets: rice bowls, salads, and sandwiches. This “place” offers a selection of house baked sweets focused on matcha green tea flavors, mochis, and mini kombucha muffins.…
Renfrew Cafe is a new cafe that recently opened six months ago in East Vancouver. This cafe specializes in handmade pies and coffee. Pies are made with locally sourced ingredients and are made fresh daily. Coffee comes from a variety of Vancouver’s coffee roasters.
Fresh clean lines with influences of modern day Japanese simplicity shapes the interior decoration. The wooden light window box is much of a focal point as it displays sweet pies and cookies. Wooden panels extends from the counter to the rest of the cafe crafted by Arata Hatanaka of Arata Design Atelier.
Renfrew Cafe is owned by Tyler Russell and operated by Ayako and Shunsuke Taguchi. Tyler Russell is the new Executive Director / Curator of Centre A and had previously owned Cafe for Contemporary Art in North Vancouver. Shun Taguchi had previously worked at Caffe Artigiano.
Renfrew Cafe’s vision is to bring some delight into your daily lives, promote community and conversations. Delicious pies and coffee are some perks that comes along for the ride!
We spent a delightful sunny afternoon chatting with Tyler over pies and coffee; culture and arts; and Vancouver’s local coffee scene. Russell, who is well traveled and fluent in English, Japanese and Korean brings an unique perspective to the table.
Matcha Latte: Yummy frothy mug of a healthy vibrant green is nutritional and flavorful.
Beef and Kimchi Pie 7: All natural beef from Okanagan and locally made kimchi. The pie crust was firm and flaky with soft beef briskets throughout. The tart and spicy kimchi was a good way to brighten the pie without being too heavy. Served with small slaw salad. We loved the humor put on the pie crust. Why so serious?
Other savory pies include:
- Ham and Cheese – local hams, mozzarella, and homemade tomato sauce. (think pizza pockets)
- Mushroom and Spinach Pie – sauteed mushrooms, spinach, mozzarella cheese and homemade tomato sauce.
Matcha Mochi Anko Pie 4: made with red bean paste, mochi and matcha powder is one of Renfrew Cafe’s best sellers. It has all of my favorite ingredients wrapped together and is not too sweet.
Other Sweet Pies Include:
- Mocha Banana – organic bananas, mocha sauce from Elsyian Coffee, and almond cream.
- Very Blueberry – all natural blueberries and almond cream.
- Classic Apple – stewed granny smith apples.
Next time you stop by, say Hi to Shun! Tell him Nomss sent you!
