Yolk’s Breakfast Vancouver started as a powdery blue food truck in downtown Vancouver; just outside the Stadium Skytrain station, on the corner of Dunsmuir and Beatty. Since then, Yolk’s Restaurant And Commissary has taken over the corner of Hastings and Clark where Brave Bull House of Steaks used to be. The space has cleaned up a bit but definitely not somewhere you would call fancy! On any given Sunday (and Saturday), there is a huge line up outside for Brunch and Breakfast. Everyone wants to indulge in sinful desires.
Daily Special – Duck Confit Eggs Benedict: One eggs, two eggs, bread or lemon truffle hash? Choose from a variety of add ons to an already decadent breakfast.
Callebaut chocolate milk and cold brew coffee latte.

Having a relaxing Sunday meal at Forage Vancouver was a treat itself. Despite what you all may thing, I don’t go out everyday or eat extravagant gourmet meals. Most days it consists of low carb salads, wonder soup diets and plenty of leftover food. Between work, wedding planning and trying to keep a regular workout routine; there is simply no time. So, as you can imagine, how nice it was just to relax on a late Sunday afternoon it was to enjoy a window seat, some sun, and a delicious breakfast.
Forage is located at The Listel Hotel in Vancouver Downtown. The name initially was awfully familiar as it was the same hotel I stayed in Shinjuku, Japan. I love the wooden interior, center island bar and high chairs. I love how there was tons of natural light pouring into the restaurant. There is even a large party room in the back. Service at Forage is top notch (except for the hostess that greeted us at the door).
Meat Board 16: Charcuterie, chicken liver parfait, pickled walnuts, and IPA mustard. Our waiter Dean was super nice to remind us that this was a meat board. I can see how someone can be surprised that may not necessary know charcuterie to be a selection of meat products. We especially love the old school chicken liver parfait with clarified butter topping. Chicken liver is set in the fridge to allow the flavors to develop. Tip: for $7 you can bring it home to enjoy. If the butter seal isn’t disturbed it should last as long as two weeks.
Crab Meat and Halibut Egg Benedict 16: shredded crab meat and halibut is light and sweet. I loved the brightness of the hollandaise. I swear there is lemon or mustard in it. Served with crispy potatoes and house made ketchup. Eggs medium poached to my liking.
The portions at Forage was just right. We didn’t feel overstuffed. The size of the meat board was surprising enough (not to mention that it packs like 2000 calories!). I blame the “Super Size” mentally we have all adapted. Sometimes, it is such a treat to slow down, enjoy each bite before rushing to cut the next piece. Please enjoy your meals!

There are many Granville Island Brunch spots, but the one that really speaks duck fat is Edible Canada Vancouver. We first came here for a crowded Valentines dinner and found that the menu was quite adventurous . Of course, we don’t have a problem with that. In […]
What’s a good lunch spot? Let’s spot for the place with a lineup, you know it’s good when people wait while they’re starving. They only serve two sandwiches? Limited choice means the food goes out fast and fresh. It also plays hip hop music on […]
Thyme to Indulge is a boutique catering company that also specializes in gourmet breakfast, brunch and the occasional market dinners. Thyme to Indulge is located on Main Street next to Dairy Queen. The interior is fresh and cute with white and black composition. Their brunch menu has a good variety of Egg Benedict, Omelettes, Pancakes, Steak and Eggs, Croque Madame, etc.
Crab Cake Benedict two locally farmed poached eggs, two dungeness crab cakes, fresh dill hollandaise sauce with parmesan breakfast potatoes and tomato provencal. The hollandaise was thick with nice punch of herbs. Toasted focaccia had just the right crunch. Crab cakes were nicely season and melted into the medium poached egg yolk. I could taste the duck fat used to render the crispy potato nuggets.
Steak and Eggs sous-vide grass-fed hanger steak, two locally farmed sunny side up eggs, breakfast potatoes, sautéed peppers, onions and kale with a smoky chipotle hollandaise sauce. Everyone seemed to optioned for the medium poached egg instead of the sunny side up. The steak was tender but slightly too over cooked. I would have preferred if it was more medium-rare.
I’m looking forward to the next Thyme to Indulge session because the Crispy Bacon Crusted Poached Egg and Croque Madame looked mighty delicious. So what if it’s a million calories right?
Thyme to Indulge also carries Tea Forte teas, pastries, donuts and macarons. The macarons are not made in house but delivered by some private kitchen.
