Beautys Lucheonette Montreal is one of those iconic restaurants that screams “Montreal”. Located in the Plateau Mont Royal district, Beauty has been around since 1942. It was opened by newlyweds Hymie and Freda Sckolnick. The name Beautys was actually Hymie’s bowling nickname. It remains a family business to this day. For you – just know the Beautys Special (smoked salmon, cream cheese, red onions and tomato on a toasted sesame seed St-Viateur bagel). Add this to your “what to eat in Montreal” gluttony tour list.
Beautys Special 11.50: This traditional lox is delicious! We liked the over the top slab of cream cheese and the combination of onions and tomatoes. The bagel was good but it was just a vehicle to carry everything.
Beautys Smoothie 6.50: When you are at Beautys, also order the Beautys Smoothie Classico – strawberry, banana and orange. As the name suggests, a classic, fruity drink that just brightens the day.
This diner is classic and very nostalgic. Seats may not be very comfortable but is a great mid-day or early morning breakfast spot. It is a great restaurant that won’t break the bank. And if you looking to try the infamous Montreal bagel St. Viateur but is running out of stomache room to fit everything in; the Beautys Special brings that iconic Montreal experience along with the “must eat” factor!

Vega One Shakes | Fig and Date Smoothie Recipe
This sweet and creamy smoothie is one filled with many health benefits. Figs contains high concentration of antioxidant polyphenols and flavonoids. It is a good source of dietary fiber and helps maintain weight management. Figs are also a good source of potassium, a mineral that helps to control blood pressure, reduces inflammation and relief from chronic constipation and gastrointestinal disorders. Dates are also great to relief constipation, intestinal disorders, heart problems, anemia, sexual dysfunction, diarrhea, abdominal cancer, etc. Dates are also one of the best ingredients for muscle development.
- 1 scoop Vega One All In One Nutritional Shake, Vanilla Chai
- 3 dates, pitted
- 1 fig
- 1 cup almond milk (you can use coconut milk also)
- 1/2 cup ice
Blend everything together in your Vitamix blender.

Having a relaxing Sunday meal at Forage Vancouver was a treat itself. Despite what you all may thing, I don’t go out everyday or eat extravagant gourmet meals. Most days it consists of low carb salads, wonder soup diets and plenty of leftover food. Between work, wedding planning and…
Burdock & Co Vancouver Brunch Affair is most stimulated by a great cup of coffee. Elysian Coffee Roasters shows no mercy. With Joe by my side, we were ready to dive into Burdock & Co brunch menu. Burdock is on Main Street near Thyme to Indulge. Burdock & Co serves a casual fare. Meals made from organic ingredients by Chef Andrea Carlson. Andrea Carlson was formerly Executive Chef at Bishop’s restaurant. Dishes at Burdock are vegetable focused.
Spicy Almond Sauce, Braised Burdock, Greens with Alkaline Noodles 13 + Crispy Beef Brisket 3: Much like a bowl of Sichuan Dan Dan noodles 擔擔麵, Burdock and Co won’t burn you and leave your face numb from fiercely spicy sauce. This dry ramen noodle bowl is mild. It has a lot of textures, flavors and substances for a good bite. Add some shredded beef brisket to compliment the pickled braised burdock root. This was perhaps the best of all the dishes we ordered. Flavors good and portions fair.
Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Sweet Onion, Biscuit 14: This was a light dish in the sense of size. The chicken nuggets were battered with a nice crunch. Though we would have preferred a better tender chicken meat to flour ratio. The pickled balsamic onion had a tangy note but was surprised us as being served cold. This was not a welcoming contrast. In the end this dish left us incomplete.
Grilled Maple Fennel Bacon 6: The soft tender bacon pieces were thickly cut and liberally glazed. It not the thin crispy strips you are served over Eggs Benedict. Hangry* would be an understatement if Dave didn’t order this extra side to go with his lean buttermilk chicken.
*Hangry – Hungry to the point of being angry.

So you’ve rendezvous with marinated rotisserie chickens, fried chicken skins and even pork terrines; so now what? How about the brunch menu? What does the Homer Street Cafe Brunch menu look like? How intimate encounter with the soft poached Egg Benedict was just as addicting as popping…

There are many Granville Island Brunch spots, but the one that really speaks duck fat is Edible Canada Vancouver. We first came here for a crowded Valentines dinner and found that the menu was quite adventurous . Of course, we don’t have a problem with that. In fact, we welcome liver, hearts, and intestines.
Brunch on a sunny Sunday afternoon was complete different. The place is relaxed and the outdoor patio space is gorgeous. Vancouver tourist must make good use of Vancouver patio restaurants and enjoy the rays. We came here after church for a late breakfast on Sunday Funday to meet up with KimYu. It was the best breakfast to cure a hangover.
Caesar and Orange juice set the pace. The Caesar was pretty standard with a candied bacon stir stick and sprinkled with some sea salt.
DUCK POUTINE 16: duck confit, cheese curds, duck gravy with two sunny side up fried eggs. If this doesn’t catch your attention, I don’t know what will. This is a heavy, heavy dish. We recommend sharing.
BOAR BACON CHEDDAR BURGER 17: wild boar bacon, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, aged white cheddar, duck fat frites. A delicious juicy burger with duck fat flavored fries.
If you are watching you diet, Edible Canada does have some healthier options like salad. Or at least you can get a PATISSERIE LEBEAU WAFFLES made with butternut mascarpone whip, roasted apples, maple syrup. Ok, may your juice cleanse and diet can start tomorrow instead.
