Go Gung Korean BBQ Coquitlam | Beef Short Ribs Kalbi
古宮 Go Gung Korean BBQ Coquitlam in Westwood Plateau is one of my favorite Korean restaurants. This Korean restaurant is one of the cleanest. The interior space is bright and open with water wheel fountain and stonewall dividers. Service is friendly and prompt. The drive is a little far for you Vancouverites. It is even a bit of a trek for me up the mountain in Coquitlam.
More importantly, it has one of the best meat quality. Although prices are above average, you get what you pay for. The grills are not typical Korean barbecue grill pan. Go Gung uses open grill. This is better because the oil will not burn on the plate with you meat on top.
Korean Seafood Pancake | Haemul Pajeon: Traditional veggie and seafood pancake with morsels of squid, octopus, shrimp. Mixed with a little batter, some scallions and a little dipping sauce and you have yourself a Korean pizza. Served on a hot pan. The sauce is sweet with a hint of spiciness. The dish is filling and good for any hungry party.
Soft Tofu Soup | Soondooboo: is a hot and spicy Korean stew made with tofu, veggies, mushrooms, onions, scallions and chili power. A soft poached egg. This soup is perfect for cold nights and is true comfort food.
Korean sides | banchan: everyday it is different. But typically it consists of sweet potatoes, kimchi, seaweed, and bean sprouts. My favorite side dish at Go Gong is their potato salad. It is slightly sweet. I can never get enough.

Seok Gi Si Dae Korean BBQ Restaurant 석기시대, Coquitlam
Sometimes little things makes me really happy. Take for example my discovery of Seok Gi Si Dae Korean BBQ Restaurant 석기시대 in Coquitlam. I’m excited because it closely resembles joints I’ve been to in South Korea.
Seok Gi Si Dae Korean BBQ Restaurant 석기시대. This authentic Korean restaurant is located on Clark Road (North Road)/ Como Lake beside KFC. It is not glamorous nor trendy but it offers really authentic Korean cuisine. You will find Lee Hyori (KPOP FINKL member if you’re wondering! Beauty!) plastered on the walls and water bottles! Their menu is limited and doesn’t offer you the moon but their specialty BBQ meats are pork belly $15.95 and boneless beef short ribs $20.97 / person and comes with miso soup, rice, and lettuce to wrap your meat in. If your favourite Korean BBQ restaurant does not offer you lettuce or greens, you should ask for it. No place should save a few cents and discount you this experience.
- Rip the lettuce in half along the stem
- Place a small piece of cooked meat
- Add some kimchi, bean sprouts, garlic or other garnish in
- Add some bean paste or chili paste
- Wrap
- Eat!
The overall experience is explosive but the lettuce lightens the greasiness of it all.
There are two separate seating areas – the Westernized table settings and the traditional Korean table settings where you are sitting cross-legged on the floor on cushions. I hope you are flexible or have been going to Yoga for Stiff Bodies because what I found amusing was Dave and a lot of my guy friends had issues sitting over long periods. They ended up standing and walking around. The walls are decorated with Korean lettering which KPOP bops in the background.
Seok Gi Si Dae is a family owned mom and pop restaurant and their son helps out doing the heavy lifting – transported the yummy goodness to your table and the BBQ stoves. Service can get slow if it is really busy, but they are super friendly and attentive is hard to knock them on that. You have to understand. Good food requires patience!
