Shyun Sushi Bar, Port Coquitlam

Seemingly unassuming from the outside, hidden away between auto bodyshops, Shyun Sushi Bar Port Coquitlam is one of my utmost favorite sushi joints in Vancouver. This local gem owned by a couple Katsu and Kanako can be easliy missed when driving eastbound along Lougheed Hwy… Their seafood is always fresh and the chef takes great pride in delivering quality and taste; so even those (like me) who has very discriminating palate always comes back loyally… There is never that disgusting after-taste in the rice that can be commonly experienced at lower-end or AYCE Japanese restos… I absolutely refuse to go AYCE… Sometimes service is a tad slow especially when it is a full house. Please be patient, you will eventually get your food… and it will be worth the wait…

Baked Beach Oysters…

plumped juicy oysters breaded and baked into sun-kissed goodness… sprinkle some lemon juice onto… eat while hot and savor the intricacies in flavor… this is not your average oyster motoyaki!!!

Deluxe Charashi…

Assorted sliced fresh fish on sushi rice with side bento box of seafood tempuras, miso soup, chicken terriyaki, and gomaae (spanish in sesame sauce)… this shogun box set is enough to satisfy two… rice bowl picture show was portioned by two already… So you get more than meets the eye (lol transformers… sorry I’m a dork sometimes =P ) I always share this with my bf or my bff… don’t be selfish and save room for other goodies…

Deluxe Assorted Sashimi…

assorted fresh fish and prawns… can i just let the picture speak for itself?

Shell Fish Roll and Flying Dragon Roll…

two for my utmost favorite rolls… SFR (crab, prawn, scallops); FDR (B.B.Q.eel,yam tempura, cucumber and salmon)

After a nice a savory I like to finish it off with dessert… (actually i just save room to enjoy the toro and hotate… sweet and fresh equivalent to dessert!!)

Sushi (Hotate and Toro)

Other equally intoxicating dishes…

  • soft shell crab
  • Kobe beef and Pine (Matsutake) mushrooms
  • volcano roll
  • daily specials… check the chalk board
  • homemade Japanese cheesecake
