We visit a little piece of Singapore today as we venture into Prata-Man Singapore Cuisine Richmond 百達門星洲美食. Prata-man is not only a diamond in the rough, but also a dive. It is next to Manzo Itamae Richmond 万藏板前日本料理. You will not find exceptional cutlery, comfortable chairs, nor out of this world customer service in terms of recommending the daily feature or featured wine list. Instead, you get simple tables, chairs, and chopsticks. The customer service goal is to get you the food relatively quick.
There are a couple of items that are must get from Prata-man and that’s all I am focusing on. Also take note that there aren’t 100 different choices in the menu. They stick to what they’re good at.
As you can see, the interior is very minimal. It looks like they get chairs for the sole purpose of sitting and tables for putting food on it. There are wacky signs at the back wall to show the lunch specials as well.
Satay Skewers: Beef, Chicken, and Pork. The meet was barbecued towards crispy. The highlight is the peanut sauce, because they left huge peanut chunks for texture. Also want to note that the sauce is sweeter than the usual sauces from other restaurants.
Hainanese Chicken Rice: BONELESS! This is the reason I come to Prata-man. I wish all chefs in the world remove bones from chickens. They always have perfected executed chicken that is so smooth. If you never had this dish before, note that it’s served cold. The ginger, green onion sauce and red chili sauce is good for both chicken and rice. Nancy always complains because I use too much sauce. What I didn’t tell her is that I doubled dipped the sauce before we were dating. =)
Curry Beef Brisket with “Prata-Bread”: The name of the name cracks me up. The Beef Brisket was soft. The last thing I want is rough / tough brisket. I can imagine it being braised in the curry for a long time. The curry wasn’t too spicy. It also shared a subtle sweetness in it.
At the end of the day, this is Asian comfort food. Don’t dress up to come here. Heck, where your sandals and PJ’s, you would probably feel more at home. Through travels in Asia, a majority of food stalls are in outdoors setting. People sit on plastic stools or squat. Let’s keep an open mind where we can pair the food to the ambiance.
