Pho Sen Lotus Beef Noodle Restaurant, Coquitlam

When one wants to dine out in Coquitlam, especially Asian cuisines, there aren’t a lot of choices. To add to the frustration, most do not open late (meaning past 10pm)… So where does one go for grub when they are too tired to venture out or just want a bowl of something satisfying within comforts of home? Somewhere clean where you won’t see salad rolls being prepared on dining tables sans cutting board or the very least plastic cover like a nearby 99 restaurant? (SRS, no joke!!!)

Pho Sen (Lotus Beef Noodle Restaurant) is located in Lincoln Centre, home to medical, dental and doctor’s offices; is in bit of a “suicide” location! Off the main roads and tucked in a ugly out-dated complex. Across the street is Henderson Place Mall. Pho Sen gave this restaurant a desperately needed face lift it’s predecessor neglected! Beautifully reno-ed with tiles, brick walls, bright lights and neutral tones, Pho Sen is invitingly clean where most other hole-in-the-wall pho places lacks!

The broth here is light (as in not oily) but yet still aromatic and flavorful! Portions are hefty and prices are reasonable!

The bowl is absolutely humongous! Marinated pork is well seasoned and tender; Shrimp skewers are fresh and juicy… Sprinkled with peanuts, shredded lettuce, cucumbers, bean sprouts and fish sauce. Ask for extra fish sauce (one bowl is usually not enough) and pre-mix some chili oil before pouring onto your dry noodles! Result? Fan-friggin-tastic!

Be sure to try their specialty crispy duck and choose from curry, house ‘king bac’, oyster and sweet and sour sauce – $14.95 for the special with jasmine rice, $2 extra to sub for fried noodles.

Crispy Duck with House ‘King Bac’ Sauce (Vit Chien Don)

The duck deep fried but the meat is tender and the skin is crispy golden brown. Best of all it is not oily as one would imagine in a piece of KFC! The house sauce with green/red peppers and onions tasted like Hoi Sin (oyster sauce) that is slightly under flavor… I beg to decipher what the Oyster Sauce vs King Bac has to differ… Trust the curry sauce will actually be more suitable candidate for the duck…

Summer Roll (aka Salad rolls)

A refreshing snack with fresh prawns, lettuce and vemicelli…

Fresh Lime Soda

absolutely refreshing especially on a hot summer’s day!!
Apparently Dave also came here during the day by himself. So we’ll have to wait and see what his “table for one” entitles.
