Pepper Lunch Cambie recently just opened this week at 2323 Cambie Street. It is located next to Hubbub Sandwich, Shishinori, and Whole Foods. This popular Japanese DIY Fast Food Steak restaurants first opened in Richmond on No. 3 Road. The Cambie location is bright, airy with high ceilings and super convenient with a brisk walk to the Broadway City Hall Skytrain Station.

The unique design patented in Japan is part of Pepper Lunch successful formula by Pepper Lunch’s founder, Chef and Inventor Kunio Ichinose. It uses a special electromagnetic cooker (the iron plate) will heat up to 260˚C in 70 seconds and remain hot at approximately 80˚C for more than 20 minutes. Your food is always hot and customers can enjoy full flavor.

The crazy food spread we had over lunch. Their menu not only includes steaks and Kobe beef burgers, but they also have tiger prawn and scallop seafood pastas, simple veggies dishes and Japanese mocha for desserts!

The dishes are accompanied with a choice between two sauces, a honey brown variety called Amakuchi or garlic soy sauce called Karakuchi. These sauces does not have any MSG and is North America’s first Pepper Lunch to do so. Australia is also follow its footsteps. I hope to see Japan also won’t be using any MSG soon too.

New York Steak: A good sized tender New York Steak that is pre-cut. You can cook to your desired doneness. You can place the meat on top of the veggies to stop the cooking process. Add in some rice and let it absorb the au jus. This also adds a little crispiness to the rice itself..

Beef Pepper Rice: This is their signature rice dish that also comes with brown rice option. The plate comes piping hot and sizzling with corn,  sprouts, green peas and thinly sliced tender beef.

Shrimp Pepper Pasta: This is also available in Shrimp and Scallops or Scallops only. The sauce is a creamy white sauce. The pasta sauce evaporates quite quickly if you do not toss it around. You may ask for extra sauce if you like your pasta less on the dry side. The shrimps are bouncy and has a good bite!

Simply Veggies: I love this steam hot plate of vegetables – mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, cabbage, pepper, sweet baby corn etc. It is a great option to add this on the side for more greens or order a full side plate to share with a friend.
