Parklane Chinese Restaurant 百樂潮州酒家 is a newly opened Chiu Chow style restaurant in Richmond. It is beside Charcoal Sushi and BBQ. Parklane took over what used to be Empire Seafood Restaurant 帝苑皇宴海鮮酒家. The space is modern with grey and white with two separate rooms. Service is prompt and pretty friendly. There is also a wide selection of dim sum to choose from during lunch – both Chiu Chow and Guangdon. Prices are catered to the high end starting with 4.95 / dish.

Chiu Chow Cuttlefish Ball rice noodle soup: a rich brothy bowl of fish soup rice noodle with bouncy cuttlefish balls, cabbage, and preserved veggies.

Oyster Minced Meat Congee: Chiu Chow style congees are less thick and soupy than ones you may find at Congee Noodle House. Complete with oyster bits, cliantro and minced meat.

Stir Fried String Beans: tasty and richly seasoned minced pork and olive leaves tossed beans.

Steamed minced fish paste bean curd rice roll: thickly stuffed fried bean curd with fish paste and a thin rice noodle blanket.

Steamed minced pork and peanut dumpling: thin skined and full bodied.

Soy Marinated Duck: served cold. The marinate was tasty and the duck was meaty but it could go on a diet to loose some fat.

Siu Mai Pork Dumplings: Pork filled center without shrimp and topped with some tobiko. I would’ve preferred some mix of shrimp to give it some brightness and texture.

Crystal Steamed Dessert Dumplings: Red bean and lotus paste with a thin glutinous rice blanket. Neither too sweet nor too filled. Bite sized.

Steamed Radish Cake: Comes in a ramekin instead of your usually pan fried or xo sauce tossed radish cake. This was a lighter choice, but makes sharing harder / messier.

Deep Fried Satay Beef Wrap: similar to your Taiwanese pancake beef wrap, this had a flakey deep fried body similar to that or a taro root dumpling. Pretty tasty.

 

Looking forward to take my parents here to try their dinner menu. Cold crab… mmmm
