NAO Sushi – Burnaby (South / Highgate Village)

NAO Sushi is located on Kingways , Burnaby by Highgate Village. It is across from the somewhat newly developments and Save-On Foods and Starbucks and beside Honda.

I often come here with friends when we want some quality sushi but our wallets are a bit tight.

Although the prices are reasonable and on par with Sushi Town Coquitlam, the quality is not completely compromised nor is the place filthy. Other similar Japanese joints would be Sushi California or Sushi Garden.

This place is busy at most times and closes early at 9 weekdays and 10pm weekends. We came here at 615pm and the streets were quickly filled up. Inside was packed within ½ dining.

Most items are pretty fresh and they offer lobster sashimi sets for $35 – comes on a boat with miso and sashimi.
Sorry no pix for this

They have some fusion rolls on top of traditional ones… I will only name some that are more unique or have improved or deteriorated.

Ichi Roll

King crab, tobiko, scallop, tamago, avocado. Wrapped with rice paper instead of seaweed.

Decently sized. I quite like the large chilled sweet egg omelette. It had just the right amount of sweetness and density

This sweet shrimp nigiri used to be made with large shrimps. Instead now 2 small shrimps are used. Disappointed.

Also downsized; but nonetheless, still pretty darn fresh.

Overall it was an enjoyable dinner as service was prompt and friendly. Nao is brightly light, clean and even has a few big flat screens for you to watch a hockey game or two while consuming some Asahi!

  • Free street parking
    Reasonably priced
    Fresh Sashimi
    Modest decor
