Milltown Bar & Grill reminds me a lot of the Flying Beaver. Although the address says “Richmond”, it is technically on the Vancouver “Marpole” side of town. It is simply a quick turn off Granville Street / Milton Street – right where Chervron gas station is. At the end of the bend you will find a big, bright red building with superb views of the Fraser River, the airport and the McArthur Glen Outlet Mall at Vancouver Airport.
Inside this former wood mill building are rustic wood, Edison lights, high top communal bar seats and a nice heated patio.
The reasonably priced food menu focuses on pub fare like nachos, burgers, pizzas and a few salad specials.
To start we ordered some beer and some nachos to share.
Loaded Barge Nachos 19: +2.50 Chicken: Crispy chips with loads of cheese, olives, and jalapenos and served with guacamole and salsa.
Daily Special: shrimp and crab sandwich and seafood gumbo soup. This was a mistake and the fact it was completely misrepresented by our waitress. She described it as fresh shrimp with crab meat with avocado on top. Sounds delicious. Unfortunately, when it arrived, it was like a sad mix of diced baby shrimp with scared crab meat smothered in heavy mayo. The avocado? Somewhere mixed in between the mess. The seafood gumbo was a heavy roux mixture that was over-floured, salty and lacked depth.
Smoked Salmon Pizza 15.25: We were debating between The Bayou. The waitress recommended the salmon. This generous sized flatbread came with lemon and dill cream fraiche, capers, mixed greens and topped with house cured salmon lax with a mustard and dill drizzle. I would recommended sharing.
Milltown Burger 13: Juicy house made all beef patty with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickled with house special burger sauce. Add cheese, bacon, mushroom or fried onions for 1.25 each.
Milltown is a great place for lunch and happy hour. I like that it doesn’t get too crowded and is quite close to Richmond. It is even faster to come here than to the battlefield of No.3 Road!
