This past week I had the opportunity to visit Banff, Alberta for work. Given that it has already started snowing, I can’t say that I’ve learnt from my last experience in Winnepeg during sub par temperatures. I refuse to purchase a “Welcome to Banff” fleece even though I failed to pack anything warm. I had a company windbreaker, couple dress shirts and tees (all of which I began layering on). I needed some AAA steak from Maple Leaf Grill.
Maple Leaf Grill is one of those traditional Canadian award winning lodge style restaurants. Being in Alberta, they specialize in Albert Beef, Bison, Elk, fresh fish and Seafood.
SEAFOOD TOWER-THREE TIER (MARKET PRICE): This tower of power is filled with fresh lobster, king crab legs, oysters, cocktail shrimp, muussels, prawns, scallops, smoked salmon, and grilled squid. All so delicious fresh and sweet.
BISON TENDERLOIN bacon wrapped, potato gratin, Benedictine blue cheese, Cumberland jus 45: Tastes like steak. I never knew Bison could taste so tender; cooked to perfection. This not gamey at all.
HOMEMADE CHEESE CAKE 9: Cheesecake of the day was caramel. The cake itself is creamy, rich and soft. Lightly drizzle with caramel sauce. I much prefer strawberries. But that’s just because I’m not a big fan of sweets.
To finish off the day Macallan Whisky is a must. Smooth. In comparison to my usual double black, tasted like gasoline. Perhaps it is time to restock the bar at home.
Maple Leaf is one of those timeless classics where you would feel satisfied every time. Next time when I return in the winter, I’ll make sure I bring my Canada Goose jacket.
