Maenam Thai Restaurant Vancouver Kitsilano is one of my favorite Thai restaurants. Not only has it won multiple awards and accolades, Chef Angus An also worked for internationally renowned Chef David Thompson at Nahm. Nham was the first Thai restaurant in the world that received a Michelin star.
I love the bright flavors and intensity of Thai cuisine. I like that Maenam hasn’t damped those and adapted to a more Western palate. I love the use of cilantro, limes and chilies. I love the heat, the acidity and the sweet and sour relationships.
Pad Thai 15: Classic pad thai with fresh rice noodles, tamarind, peanuts, tofu, egg, sustainable prawns. This dish can be vegetarian. Ask for chilies on the side if you are unsure of your heat tolerance.
Grilled Thai Sausage and Crispy Rice Salad 12: yam namm – grilled house fermented thai sausage with garlic and chilies served with curried rice puffs, lemongrass and shallots. We first saw this dish on Munchies and knew we had to have it.
Stir Fried Water Spinach with Crispy Pork Belly 17: pan boon fai dang – light stir fry of this popular snappy Asian greens, with fermented soy bean and fried garlic. This dish was slightly salty and has a punch of heat.
The waitress suggested we ordered rice despite having Pad Thai noodles. Our thoughts was we really didn’t need. We barely touched it and had much leftovers. We would suggest holding off until all the food comes (unless you have a curry going!)
Chef Angus An other restaurants include Fat Mao Noodle Bar and Longtail Kitchen in New Westminster.
