LIPS resto is a newly opened elegant restaurant on Davie Street. With a million-dollar renovation, Lips is a comfortable fine-dining addition to the West End neighborhood with reasonable prices. Menu focused on casual and ethnic fare. Finally, you don’t have to leave Davie Street to have a nice sit down dinner in a nice upscale atmosphere!
Their burgers? Delicious and prices are competitive with say Score On Davie, Moxies, etc. Certainly the aim of clientele is a little different then ones you see looking for Toonie Tuesdays or Whopper Wednesdays. I love both value days actually! Lips Resto brings really good value for the quality of food in a really nice environment!
Why Lips Resto? The Executive Chef is known as Curtis “Lips” Demyon (most recently as executive chef at The Fish House in Stanley Park).
We were invited by Lips Resto for menu tasting.
Mojito Storm 11: Bacardi Anejo, ginger beer, fresh lime juice, agave syrup, fresh mint. I always love a good ginger beer cocktail or a Moscow Mule.
Strawberry Lemon Soda 5: For those days when you don’t feel like drinking alcohol. Made with soda, strawberries, fresh lemon juice, basil, and agave syrup.
We sat at the bar watching the game, talking shop over taro root chips, masala, cumin and cauliflower dip.
Daily Soup: Beet veloute, mussels, fennel, lotus chips, basil and caramelized first of the season apricot. A very beautiful soup that has a hint of tart sourness. Perfect for the summer!
Elk tartare 16: Let me first say it comes with fried bread! Not crostinis or chips, but fried bread. I could eat a basket full. Comes with blueberry compote, tender greens, rosemary emulsion, and smoked egg yolk.
Roasted Butternut Squash and Quinoa Salad 10: with kale, arugula, pickled fennel, ricotta, spicy pecans, and maple vinaigrette. Loved all the different textures. The flavors were well balanced and the spicy pecans were awesome!
Paloma Cazadores Blanco 11: Grand Marnier, pink grapefruit juice, fresh lime juice, grapefruit bitters, soda, with a ginger cayenne rim.
Smoked Black Cod 25: a lighter West Coast version of Carbonara. Traditionally made with eggs, cheese, and fatty bacon or porchetta; Lips optioned for seafood. Clams, peas, hand cut pappardelle, confit jalapeno, egg yolk, with padano just hits the spot.
Dry aged New York Strip Loin 37: Smoked potato puree, sweet onion, beet, truffle ketchup, natural jus. Classic.
Mango Passionfruit Tart 9: This dessert is a deconstructed Hawaii on a plate. Vanilla bean shortbread, mango mousse, smoked coconut, passionfruit curd, and mango sorbet. I love all the tropical flavors and the assortment of textures. Crunchy from the smoked coconut chips. Creamy curd. Jammy mango sorbet. Delicious!
Come for brunch on the weekend and enjoy the newly installed sliding doors on Lips Resto’s patio space. Spend an evening indoors while still connected to the outside and people watch. Lips Resto is also opened for late night until 1 am.
