Jamjar is a relatively new Folk Lebanese eatery on Commercial Drive, Vancouver. It is like the evil twin of Nuba. The restaurant is casual and is tapas focused with fresh local ingredients in mind. Small dishes like mjadra, humus and falafel for sharing in a mezze fashion.

The cozy space is filled with reclaimed wood, mirrors and lots of white tiles. Lighting during dinner time is probably not the best for food photography (unless you want to flash everyone).

Hummus Trio 9.50: Original creamy chickpea dip and two seasonal flavors. Tonight seasonal flavors were 1. tomato confit cilantro with anise powder and thyme; 2. sweet potato honey with tahini. Personally I still enjoy the original humus more because of the savory taste.

Makali 8.50: Deep fried cauliflower & zucchini. I love crispy cauliflowers with lemon. This tiny dish was simply not enough for myself, much less to share. It would be amazing if this dish included a few more pieces of cauliflower floret.

Makanik 9.50: Custom made beef & lamb sausages. Rich and flavorful sausages loaded with spices.

Beef Okra Stew 16: Okra, beef brisket, onion, cilantro tomato based stew. Served with either brown rice or vermicelli white. We picked vermicelli with white rice.

Jamjar is a great place for a snack and perhaps even a drink. It is hard to think that we would be full from a few morsels of tapas dishes. This restaurant is pleasing but not mind blowing yet. We see potential. Perhaps we should come back in a few months during day time for a revisit and for some naturally sunlit photos.
